What's new

1905 Double Ring...

for something that is over 100 years old i would say it looks pretty good. I don't think plating made now would look that good in 100 years and you know that razor sat for many years without any kind of polishing.

That is one of the nicer examples I've seen. I paid less for mine but that one is shinier with better plating. Condition matters on things that are never going to be used.

WOW, I sit, and typed, corrected.

This would explain why I keep being the under-bidder and not the winner. Good thing I noticed an uncased one with a BIN at a price I could afford!

Thanks for the reality check guys.

Well I plan on using mine when it arrives, even if only once and VERY carefully!

I'm no expert by any means, but it looks like the case might have been repaired. The back side specifically. Also, as far as no cracks, it loos like only one side of the razor is ever shown. The handle should have the "pat. nov. 15. '04" on the flat area near the bottom. I can't see any trace of that stamp at all. If both sides were shown, there should be, at least, the beginning or end some place. Yes it's also possible the light obscured the stamp from view. OK, I'm done being a downer:lol:
Still a very nice razor. $400 really makes me think of putting my #220733 DR with absolutely zero plate loss and even nicer case and blade boxes up for sale:tongue_sm

Just kidding, never will any of my DR or SR Gillettes go on sale, and since we celebrate the same b-day (well month and day at any rate), I will be shaving with the '05 DR in the morning!

MrGuy, let me put at ease. I know from a very good source hat the Double Ring in question had no cracks, the case had not been altered in anyway, it was just a very nice set. arrow. :wink2:

Good enough for me. I'll take your word for it, as I said, I sure am no expert.:001_smile
