1800 Taquila

Hmm.. you'll probably get many answers to this question. I like Patron silver, both for drinks as well as for shots. Many people tend to like "anejo", or aged tequilas, for their more complex flavor.

Sauza Hornitos is good, Herradura, all the Patrons are good. When I was in Germany they had a brand called Sierra which is also good.

I know I'll never buy Southern Comfort (I know its not tequila, I guess I'm just trying to identify with the annoying commercials) ever again, as a very young soldier I had a very nasty reaction to it, the commercials are annoying and it's the only stuff I'll get dry heaves for when I walk past it at the Class Six, I see it, my stomach burns. Jose Cuervo Gold which is a mixto, made me feel as though there was a monster living in my stomach and then chest and then i had to go worship at the porcelain god's altar. And I burst a damn blood vessel in my eye while that demon was leaving where it came in at. needless to say, I quit drinking for about a year after that experience. Stay away from Jose Cuervo Gold, especially straight, what the hell was I thinking?

So, what's a good tequila?

It's hard for an uneducated tequila drinker (myself) to say. I can say that locally we have a couple mexican restaurants that have very good bartenders that are schooled in Takillya. It's like wine, they can become extremely complex and a very good tequila for my palette is smooth, not very much burn, usually an anejo with the occasional reposado. Those are made for sipping. Not a lot of Joven's and Blanco's unless I am mixing it or taking shots.

Just find a bar/restaurant with a skilled bartender and he will set up a flight for you. My favorite tequila was recommended to me by a walmart worker in Cancun. It was cheap, like 4 bucks and you can't get it in the states. The name was one the bottle's wrapper so it is long gone. It's a pretty tall skinny clear bottle with a deed on the front and a red glass stopper. It is an aged anejo that is almost like drinking water it is so smooth.

So, what's a good tequila?

Just realized you are in Dallas, try Trece. They have a wonderful tequila selection and will set up a nice flight for you. You can also try Agave Azul in Carrollton. There are some other tequila bars, but the bartender didn't really seem knowledgeable past their crib sheets.

I've finished off a few bottles of 1800 myself (one time in one night ) and the shot glass doesn't even really work, you spill more than you drink. It's a decent thirty dollar tequila just wish they'd spend less on the bottle and more on the tequila itself.

I like tequila better than whiskey, vodka, scotch, and even gin. Whiskey tastes like gasoline mixed with tobacco juice. Single malt scotch isn't bad but a good tequila will beat anything. BTW: I sip tequila.
