Hello ,

I am looking at upgrading my current Roney 3/1 in pure badger for something in silvertip. I came across a new 1/1 for a cheaper price than the 3/1 (almost 15 cheaper) and wanted to know if I should just stay with the 3/1 or go for a 1/1 and save the extra coin ? For info, I do face lather and tend to use creams as well as soaps , but I do need something that will work good for harder stuff like Cella. while I do love the handle of the 3/1, I have never held a 1/1 so I'm not sure of the difference. What is your preference?

As a side note, I am sorry with all the brush threads from me as of late I am just so undecisive on this one!

Going by the current specs on the 3/1 and 1/1 on Vintageblades website it looks like the difference is only in the handle. Having handled both these brushes, i find that the hair on the 3/1 has a little bit more splay as compared to the 1/1. Simply put the 1/1 is strictly a soap brush while the 3/1 is good for soap and cream. Since you already have a 3/1 i would advice you to go for the 1/1.

I will go ahead and get this out of the way: get both

No I REALLY need to save pennies and avoid temptation as much as possible. I feel awful that I already want to get a super and drop my badger but I have justified I can possibly make some back on a BST with my 3/1 pure and a nice little care package to boot.

Well, I have tried neither, but if I were to get one, I would get the 1/1. I am sure Rooney's fanclub will be in shortly to help you.

To be honest, even though I prefer smaller brushes, I found the 1/1 to be too small of a brush for some reason. I have average-sized hands, and the handle just felt so tiny! I actually upgraded to a Rooney 1/2 because of the 1/1's small size.

Now the 3/1, that is one of the best designed handles in shaving, and perfectly sized.

I hear the 1/1 is more suited for soaps and the 3/1 is more versatile so that makes me wonder.

I just picked up the 3/1 because Vintage Blades had the color handle I wanted in the 3/1 and not the 1/1 but after looking at the brush specs I figured they were both the same. I needed one that was versatile anyway, because I use both soaps and creams.

Wait, if what you say is true, then your decision should be an easy one.

If you're a soap only guy...pick up the 1/1.

If you're a soap & cream guy...pick up the 3/1.

?

True, but then again you also see in search results that members say the 1/1 works great on both and is a more superior brush for soaps due to the shorter loft, but works equally as well as with creams as the 3/1 does.

Maybe that's because they are the same knot

Looks to me like there is no wrong choice.

Just close your eyes :closedeye and click

The big question is where did you find a 1/1 for $15 less than a 3/1 in super? Enquiring minds really, really want to know!

I am curious as to how you guys would rank the Rooney 1/1 hair choices. I am interested in a Rooney 1/1, and know that Finest is the best because of the backbone and soft tips, but I feel like Super and Genuine Silvertip might be too floppy (if that's possible in a brush this size). What do you guys think about Best Badger. I remember the Shavemacs had adamant Best Badger fans awhile back. Any opinions?

A 1/1 is the same as a 3/1, except for the handle style. The knots are the same dimensions. They'll both work great for soaps and creams, so I say get whichever handle you like.

I like the short handle on the 1/1 because I face lather and like to hold the base of the knot when I use the brush.
