007 movies

I just watched Quantum of Solace and it got me thinking about my favorite bond movies, Villians, Bond Girls, and of Course Who was the best Bond any thoughts? I like From Russia with Love and Live and Let Die, Oddjob was pretty cool and as far as bond girl I will go with Camille (Olga Kurlyenko) from Quantum or Solitaire (Jane Seymour) from Live and Let Die. Well I grew up watching mostly Sir Roger Moore so I guess he is my favorite for nostalgia reasons alone.

Sean Connery all the way! However, I'm a big fan of Jaws, who doesn't love a giant man with metal teeth who can chew through steel.

Connery was the best. From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever are my personal favorites of his era.

We've had other threads discussing this very thing. Craig IS Fleming's Bond. The early Connery efforts are excellent, the first Dalton was very good, some of the Brosnan outings had their moments, Moore was a pathetic joke and almost singlehandedly ruined the franchise but no one can touch Craig. I just hope they keep the bar high with the next installment. It's a shame that's the last one he is contracted for but I hope he will stay around for at least one or two more after that.

What couldn't this guy do?? I mean look at that handstand...and you know ol' Honey Rider is having every bit of it. Legendary!

My vote goes to Connery. I never cared for Moore; Dalton was ok but came up lacking; Brosnan was pretty good; I've heard good things about Craig but haven't seen any of his films. Come to think of it, I don't think I saw the last Brosnan film either!

Tough call. I grew up watching all the Bond movies, repeatedly... enough that I could recite them in my sleep. Live and Let Die is my favorite original, the motorboat scene specifically. Out of the new ones (Goldeneye and up) Daniel Craig is my favorite. I think he did a great job in Casino Royale, it's the first time I've seen the character have any depth and he was able to kick *** without being a gadgeteer, but I watched Quantum of Solace on Sunday night and didn't really care for it.

It's strange. I used to love the old Bond flicks. The Connery stuff is classic, and I like some of the Dalton stuff. But then Bond became a huge joke. Each film seemed to get worse and worse from the 80's on. Goldeneye was an exception, but the films following went back to being hokey crap.

Casino Royale changed Bond for me. It was back to being incredibly enjoyable. Daniel Craig does a great job in the role. The film is a lot better paced than many of the predecessors, and they cut out a lot of the groan worthy crap that really ruined the franchise. Do I miss all the gadgetry? Sometimes. Do I miss the god awful one liners, pathetic site gags, and goofy puns? No. After watching Casino Royale, and then rewatching the old Bond films, I've noticed that they really don't hold up well anymore. I dig the calculating bad *** over the bad pickup line spewing pseudo-pimp with a gun.

Best Bond girl: Xenia Onatopp. Camile is a very close second. Olga Kurylenko is flat out stunning to look at, but a **** poor actress.

Connery is the best, Craig given time might surpass him. This has to do with the fact that the quality and budget of the movies is so much greater now than then. Craig is also a superior actor.

While Connery was the most dashing and suave Bond there was, Craig is my favourite. He really has the grittiness and physique that Moore and some of the other Bond's lacked. Only Connery and Craig had that tough image.
And that's what Fleming wanted and portrayed in the novels.

I ADORED Casino Royale and Craigs role. Quantum was not as good but decent.

Does anybody remember the two killers in Diamonds are Forever, Mr Kidd and Mr Wint?
I always thought they were a hoot:lol:

Underrated or forgotten about by many is the wonderful Robert Shaw in From Russia with Love. His 'chat' with Connery as Bond in the railway carriage compartment is a delight, two top notch movie actors at their very best.

FRWL...one of my top three, and in my opinion the only real "spy" story in the series, includes my all time fav bond girl Daniela Bianchi. Just typing her name brings back fond memories.

Yup. Craig's got it. From someone who read all the books before seeing the movies most Bonds disappointed me, until Craig came along. Craig and the early Connery were the closest to the "true Bond" (hah!). The books did have humor (e.g. Dr. No defeated by being buried in bat guano) but not the over-the-top stuff from the Moore years. I must admit, though, some of those were beautifully filmed.

... but I watched Quantum of Solace on Sunday night and didn't really care for it.

Boy did they mess that one up! Might as well have been one of those awful Bourne films -- second rate at best. Camera on a bungee cord, I think someone described it. Cheap jack way to film "action".

P.S. -- From Russia With Love is still my favorite, even compared to Casino Royale. What a cast of characters! And action? How about that fight on the train?

I've always been partial to Goldfinger, maybe because of the golf game. I also remember particularly liking Connery's reprise -- Never Say Never Again -- although I haven't seen that one in a long time.

That's an intense bit of psychological warfare there. I love it when Bond punctuates his point by tossing the bar of gold bullion on the putting green causing Goldfinger to miss the easy putt.

They were homosexuals in the novel if I remember correctly but that didn't translate to the film very well. They got their comeuppance though!

The scene between Shaw and Connery in the train is one of the classic moments in the early Bond films. The taut, closequarter filming reminds me of some of Hitchcock's work. I saw this movie on television just the other night and really enjoyed it. The early Bonds weren't too top heavy on the gadgets and this lean quality adds to rather than detracts from them.

QoS gets slammed because of its brevity, the frenetic pace of the editing, and--believe it or not--even for having too much action! I'm expecting QoS to work as a bridge film between CR and the next one. Undoubtedly the most violent and intense Bond film to ever come down the pike, the film worked for me on all levels. I've seen bits and pieces of the Bourne films and even though I know they came first to me they look like the followup but that could be because Matt Damon is no Daniel Craig.

It's unfortunate that Geroge Lazenby played Bond in what COULD have been the best one of them all, had Sean Connery been in the role...

Good thread!

However, since Bond is now dead (RIP-2002) the more appropriate question would be: who "was" the greatest Bond villain, etc.

and it was...Jaws, or Red Grant.
