Always thought pre-shaves were pointless when I only shaved with a DE but since I’ve moved to straights, at least with my beginner technique I think it makes a huge difference in my shaves.
Pre-shave: Proraso Red
Soap: Arko
Razor: Modified Gold Dollar
Brush: Omega boar
Aftershave: VIBR
Balm: Nivea Sensitive
Straight shave #8. Minimal aftershave burn, and 1 weeper which was not present post-shave. Completely avoided the lower part of my neck that got some razor burn yesterday, so...
Haha I'll have that luxary in due time, but I think for now it's a little early to purchase a second straight!
Yeah all of the "skin issues" I've had with my straight and my Rolls Razor experimentation have happened during the third pass. I've been able to talk myself out of doing a third pass...
Soap: Cella
Razor: Modified Gold Dollar
Brush: Omega boar
Aftershave: VIBR
Balm: Nivea Sensitive
Straight shave #7. Small chin weeper, and another small one on my neck near my adams apple, but I think I just reopened the one from the other day. 2 full passes WTG, and did a third pass XTG (ear...
Soap: Arko
Razor: Modified Gold Dollar
Brush: Omega boar
Aftershave: Stirling Duke
Balm: Nivea Sensitive
Straight shave #6. No nicks/irritation. Minimal aftershave burn. Some patchy stubble left over, more than yesterday anyway, but chose not to do a cleanup. 3 full passes, 2 WTG, last pass...
Usually 2-3 passes. Rarely ATG. I'll do a 1 passer if I feel like I need to give my face a break but still want to shave.
I don't care about closeness.
Problem solved.
Did probably double the amount of stropping I usually do for some practice before shaving today and the blade felt smooth as butter for the entire shave.
I just wasn't stropping enough. Lesson learned.
Thanks for the advice/time fellas. Hope everyone is doing well.
Pre-shave: Proraso Red
Soap: Arko
Razor: Gold Dollar
Brush: Omega 10077
Aftershave: Lilac Vegetal
Straight shave #5. Slowly whittling down the technique for my problem areas. Each shave is an improvement. No cuts, nicks, or irritation. Zero aftershave burn. 3 full passes, and went XTG on...
I use a smaller wooden shaving bowl to press in part of an Arko stick. My lathering bowl is a larger stainless steel bowl. I usually just store the smaller wooden bowl with Arko inside the stainless steel bowl when I put my stuff away. Less space that way. Living in NYC teaches you tricks...
