I used my Gem Micromatic Clog-Pruf razor today with a Gem PTFE blade. This is the one that accompanied a U.S. soldier all through the Italian campaign in WWII and got "blessed" by Pope Pius XII:biggrin1: Soap was a Williams puck (not the Arko pictured, and the brush is a new synthetic "chess"...

    Single Edge SEptember 2020

Sunday, Sept. 13th. I shaved with my Ever-Ready 1914 razor today. I think it's my third shave on a Gem PTFE blade. Prep pre-shave, Palmolive shave stick, three passes. Followed by Snake Bite aftershave and Thayers witch hazel. Love this razor. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday. Cliff Seattle

Have you ever not been able to finish a shave with a new blade?

Yes, I recently tried Bic Chrome Platinum blades in a Gillette Slim Adjustable with terrible results. The blades were part of a sample pack from tryablade.com. I was afraid the first blade was going to shred my face, but I stuck with it long enough to make it through the first pass. It felt like...

    Breaking in new Synthetic Brush

Hello, I just looked through the stickies on brushes but I didn't see anything about breaking in a new synthetic brush. I just received a brand new Turn-n-Shave Chess synthetic brush and I'm wondering what I need to do, if anything, before I start using it. The brush doesn't smell and seems to...

Just curious, do you notice any difference in your physiology when using a caffeinated soap and aftershave? Does it really offer a kick to your morning routine like the company says it does?

Ok, back with another SE shave today. No pics, but I used my Schick Model G (4th shave on the blade) Prep pre-shave, canned Gillette Barbershop Mousse shaving cream, followed by Thayer's witch hazel. Still a great shave on that blade. Thanks.

    Lather Catchers

Whiterook, its funny you show an ancient ad for a Star razor because that's kind of what got me going on this interest. A week or two ago I saw a Star Lather Catcher in the For Sale forum here. I think it was refinished because it was bright and gorgeous. It sold before I could really look into...

    Bic Blades ?

If you don't mind me horning in, there were no wax dots or anything on the blades or the wrappers for my Bic blades, and the blade was one of the worst I've ever tried. Its from a sample pack from tryablade.com.

    Bic Blades ?

Ah, makes sense now, thank you for taking the time to explain. And this explains the glue/wax drops that were on the faces of the Astra blades I just finished ( but only one of them). Thanks again.

    Bic Blades ?

Thanks, but I don't have a clue as to what you mean by dots on the wrappers and/or wax dots on the blades. And stolen but not counterfeit???

    Bic Blades ?

Thank you for your thoughts. No, I most likely will not be using the Bic blades, although I'll give the second Bic blade a try just to be fair. I have at least a dozen to try out from the tryablade pack and I'll continue working my way through them to see which blade is best for me and my razor...

    Bic Blades ?

I'm in the early weeks of working my way through a batch of test blades from tryablade.com. I just tried the Bic Chrome Platinum. It didn't go well. From the get-go it felt like I was going to rip my face to shreds. I actually dialed down my Slim Adjustable from 3 to 2, but it still felt scary...

Thanks Clay. I'll have to watch that closely because I want to be able to use current GEM ptfe blades. Thanks for the heads up.
