Nicks Builder Pro Boots Break-in Log

I don’t remember them being so tight that I had to use my weight to get into them. Although, if you read some of my previous posts, you’ll see that I definitely had some comfort issues in the beginning for a few months even. Now, they are like old friends and I like having them on. I used an...

    Peterson, Nearly 40 Year Wait

I love it and bought another smaller one (317) as well. I find the smaller one much more useable for a quick smoke or for when I want to be moving around because it hangs nicely in my teeth. The larger one is great for sitting and relaxing for a longer smoke. the XL315 fresh out of the box...

    Peterson, Nearly 40 Year Wait

I go through phases of smoking and not smoking pipes. Many years ago I sold all my pipes for $1 apiece, except a CAO meerschaum. So various corncobs and that little meerschaum have gotten me through my return phases. I thought I kept my Savinelli dry system pipe too, but can’t find it. So...

Why aren't flat bottomed pipes more common?

I just picked up this sitter by Lorenzo. The massive size seems to balance out the look of the flat bottom. Just relaxing at the cottage and enjoying the peace and quiet.

    Liver anyone?

I had to give it up. The uric acid kills my arthritis something crazy. At the beginning of the 2020 pandemic I was eating liverwurst sandwiches nearly every day to help boost my immune system. After about two weeks I could barely function due to the pain in my joints. Even one meal of beef...

Cut Out the Artisan Crap...Soap is Soap!

Eight pages in, wow. I mean, this is a shaving forum where we talk about our fun/silly little hobby in ways that normal humans would find odd. So who cares? When I get out my Mitchell’s Woolfat in the branded ceramic bowl I feel like it is a little artisany. But does it really matter? The shave...

So what’s left, one shave’s worth? I wouldn’t worry about it.

Nicks Builder Pro Boots Break-in Log

They seem to be holding up fairly well, but I doubt they will last much more than another six months before wearing through at the balls of my feet. Keep in mind that all of my previous boots would be toast by now. The boots themselves still feel fairly new, like they’ve just been broken in. My...

Nicks Builder Pro Boots Break-in Log

If you order a pair of Nicks and request the honey Vibram sole, they will probably try to talk you out of it. My next pair with the Hotshot red X sole should be here in a few weeks and then I can compare the two for traction, but it will probably be years before I need resoleing.

Nicks Builder Pro Boots Break-in Log

I ordered the softest sole knowing in advance that they wouldn’t last as long as the more durable Hotshot series. I like having two pairs of boots to alternate every other day. I’m sure I could get by longer, but I want the second pair fully broken in before sending the first pair for new...

Brass screws. You’d have to look at their website for details.

Nicks Builder Pro Boots Break-in Log

It’s been about a year now since the Nicks Builder Pro boots landed on my doorstep. I washed & oiled them recently and decided that I should get them resoled in the next few months. So I ordered a new pair (Hotshot in black) in order to have them broken in by the time I send these off. I don’t...

Yes, they are walnut. They are much darker now because of the Obenaufs. Plus, my photography might not be studio quality. I was just planning to update this thread, now that I’m about a year in. Also I just ordered a second pair (Hotshot in black) so I can have them well broken in before I send...

2020 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - Those Daring Men with their Jaunty Razors & Jalopies

Sorry I haven’t been around to offer much needed encouragement. I had to go on vacation. Anyway, I’ll continue to check in periodically just to remind those left to stay strong.

2020 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - Those Daring Men with their Jaunty Razors & Jalopies

No Speick‽ Wow! You have great resolve to go nearly a year without essential shave ingredients. I hope your back up team of aftershave can pick up the slack.

    sauce/condiment for lamb?

Nearly ten years late to this thread, but the link still works. I made this tonight with a lamb loin roast and it was delish! I over reduced a bit, but flavor was still fabulous.

2020 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - Those Daring Men with their Jaunty Razors & Jalopies

Well, since the whole counting thing was just an afterthought after I thought it might be close and I’m not really participating in any of the events, I think I’ll just leave it alone. I already edited it once when I realized I was missing a “to” and deleted an “a” to keep the count the same...
