Hi gents. Thanks to all respondents - I always appreciate the knowledge and diversity of opinions on offer at B+B.
I recently purchased a Merkur 15C. i have used it once (new Feather blade) and it gives a very nice, smooth irritation free shave. It gets very close to BBS, but seems to struggle...
I was just curious to hear from gents who use shims - do you have one always fitted to your razor, or do you use one occasionally, what type of shim do you use, have you ever had any issues etc.,
Thanks in advance.
@Atlantic59, you may well be right about the Maggard review, but the example they showed did not even have the lugs welded fully to the bottom of the cap, so the blade actually slid into that gap. Of course, they chose a particularly bad example to make the point, but...
Thanks Pegasus K and Dave-the-rave. Appreciate your posts.
@Pegasus K - this YMMV thingy is undoubtedly true, but it makes picking razors quite hard - I had my heart set on a 15C, but you say it is half as aggressive as a 34 C ? Wow - that messes with my head big time. Also, I saw a review...
The little information that exists is mostly in German, so it's hard to know exactly what s happening. I'm sure not even the company knows what's going on.
Without wanting to appear selfish, my main interest is in the Merkur side of the company, and I hope that nothing changes in this space.
I was just watching the latest geofatboy video, reviewing the Merkur 25C - someone in the comments section wrote that the Merkur company has filed for bankruptcy.
Can anyone confirm this ? I can't find anything on the internet, certainly not in English.
Hi xiletero. Thanks for that.
I'm strictly only a face/neck shaver. I have seen a few more reviews of Youtube of the 15C, and the main point of difference among the reviewers is the aggressiveness. None say it's the most aggressive OC they have used, most describe it as efficient, striking a...
Hi rusty1. Thanks again. I appreciate your continued interest in my queries.
Yes, Razorock products are available here. There's a supplier who looks like they carry the entire Razorock range.
One of the things I like about Merkur razors is that they are German made, but I will look into the...
Hi rusty1, BigJ and JAHE. Thanks for that. I'm in Australia, and the Rocca looks like a nice piece of gear, but not available locally, and would be a bit out of my price range once shipping, exchange rate etc. is factored in.
I just wanted to clarify the general consensus on the 15C - is it...
Hi chuckd and rusty1. Thanks for those replies. Much appreciated.
In addition to my R41 (yes, it is the post 2013 model), I also own a Merkur 34C, 37C, and Edwin Jagger DE89. It seems to me as though there is a very large gap between the R41 on the one hand, and the other 3. It's like from the...
Just wondering if anyone out there owns or has used both the Muhle R41 and Merkur 15C, and if so, could you give some thoughts as to how they compare, which you prefer etc. I already own an R41 (recent model), but geofatboy recently did a review of the 15C and it looks like a great...
Yes, I agree. This is exactly my experience. I can only use the R41 with the handle as far from the face as possible (shallow angle / riding the cap). I need a 2nd razor to do the moustache, especially the top half of the moustache, right under the nose. You simply cannot ride the cap in this...
