    Tried a Derby Extra again

Hmmm...I just got finished trying another Derby Extra through a four-shave test and this one was outstanding. I'll have to see how it goes with the rest of the pack. Perhaps quality control is questionable?

    Derby premium,how is this blade?

I've just finished testing the Derby Premium blades through my standard 4-shave test. This was in my 1959 Gillette Fat Boy. My standard shave is 3.5 passes: one with the grain, one across the grain going outside to in, one against the grain, then one-half of a pass on the neck going across the...

    Tried a Derby Extra again

I've just finished testing the Derby Extra Stainless Steel blades through my standard 4-shave test. This was in my 1957 Gillette Red Tip. My standard shave is 3.5 passes: one with the grain, one across the grain going outside to in, one against the grain, then one-half of a pass on the neck...

    First experience with Astra Stainless

I finished my four shave test with the SS blade with my 1959 Gillette Fat Boy. It was set on "8", my normal setting, which is pretty aggressive. Overall, the shaves were excellent. In this last shave, the blade felt noticeably duller than at the beginning, but my shave was still really good...

    Astra Superior Platinum testing

I finished the four shave test with the SP in my Gillette Red Tip. The last shave this morning felt like the blade had noticeably dulled, but the quality of the shave was still very good. I'll next try the SP in my Gillette FatBoy to see if the performance is any different. I'm still feeling...

    Astra Superior Platinum testing

    Only with marginal blades.

    Astra Superior Platinum testing

This morning was shave number 2. It was better than shave 1 relative to the irritation, as I had none today. I had the usual number of weepers. I still think the SP is slightly behind the SS, but will make the final determination after I'm done with four shaves.

    Astra Superior Platinum testing

I received a couple of tucks of Astra Superior Platinum blades in a sampler recently. Today was my first shave with one. I first stropped the blade as I normally do with all new blades, then loaded it into my 1957 Gillette Red Tip. My normal shave is 3.5 passes: the first down the face and...

Any fans of Shark stainless blades?

I just finished up shave number four with the Shark blade. I was using TOBS Eton College cream. The shave is decent, but performance has definitely degraded from the first shave. It's a blade that's worthy of four shaves for me, which is the most I ever use a blade for, so I definitely consider...

    Blade Review: Dorco Titan

I'm glad it worked out for you. It sure didn't for me. That's why the term "your mileage may vary".

    First experience with Astra Stainless

This morning was my fourth and last shave with this Astra blade. I only use a blade four times, twice on one side, then flip and twice more on the other. Then I toss them. Blades are too inexpensive to use until they start to irritate. This shave was outstanding, every bit as good as the first...

    First experience with Astra Stainless

Shave #2 this morning was just as good as shave #1, although I have a roughness patch that is likely operator error. I like these blades a lot.

    First experience with Astra Stainless

I received a couple of tucks of Astra Stainless blades in a sampler recently. Yesterday was my first shave with one. I first stropped the blade as I normally do with all new blades, then loaded it into my 1957 Gillette Red Tip. My normal shave is 3.5 passes: the first down the face and neck, the...

Any fans of Shark stainless blades?

This morning was shave number two with the Shark Stainless. The shave process I described above was the same, except this morning the cream I used was TOBS Lavender. The shave was outstanding. Very smooth, with little irritation. The results was a BBS shave. I'm really liking this blade so far.

How I strop a razor blade

Disagree if you want. All I can tell you is that the first shave with a new blade is significantly improved after I started stropping the new blade.

Macduff’s Monthly Blade Review: Feather Hi-Stainless

I did my third shave with this Feather blade, having flipped it over after the first two shaves. This third shave didn't produce any irritation or weepers, so it was better than the second shave in that regard. However, I still had a number of areas of roughness where the hair had not been cut...

    Blade Review: Dorco Titan

I already stropped the blade, as I show on my video.

    Blade Review: Dorco Titan

I tried a second shave with the Dorco blade. Pretty much the same results. My face looks and feels like I shaved with a pocket knife. I think I'll move on from this one.

How I strop a razor blade

I disagree. I tried corking the way Mantic51 recommends and I almost sliced my fingers to ribbons. Blades don't exactly just slide through a cork.
