I would sooner duct tape a blade to a popsicle stick. 😂

    Buying vintage Gillette razors

I’ve bought three but in fairness they were re-knots. A true used brush is a bit like borrowing someone’s toothbrush.

I wouldn‘t shave YOUR face with that let alone mine!

    Mergress and bad razor burn

Nailed it today! Dialed up to 2. Face lathered Palmolive. Not BBS yet but DFS. Seems it was my lather.

    Buying vintage Gillette razors

I’m fortunate that five of my vintage razors came from my grandfather and one from my dad. They have history. Family history. I’m perfectly comfortable using them.

    Mergress and bad razor burn

Agreed, I just have a hard time taking a day off from shaving, especially with a new razor in the den. Ha ha. Today went really well. Face lathered Olivian Bourbon and Cedar. Again, a slick lather. Took my time. Very, very little irritation hours later. So, I’m thinking one of my issues was my...

    Mergress and bad razor burn

And even better today. Face lathered my last dab of Palmolive Classic. That stuff is really slick and cushioning. Changed my grip to just about 1 1/2” or so below the head, right about at the balance point but still handle heavy if that makes sense. Focused on a very light touch and an angle...

And so it begins. A home espresso journey

Went to Italy last May. Became totally hooked on espresso. Picked this up almost immediately after my return. Haven’t regretted it at all. No, I don’t have all the controls for temperature and pressure and what not but for me it makes a damn fine shot for my daily cafe latte.

    *Fatip Slant*

Wait. I’m late to the party here. There‘s a Fatip open comb slant?? WTH? I just gave up slants for an OC. After 10 years of almost exclusively using a slant I’ve been cutting myself far too frequently lately So I went to an OC and love it. Now you tell me I can get an OC Slant? Dang it. I don’t...

    Mergress and bad razor burn

Finally. Had a decent shave today and only minor irritation. Face feels fine this evening which has not been the case most of this week. I used a fresh Astra blade. Dialed it back to 1 1/2. Face lathered Trumpers Violet. This is my go to routine when I want a really cushioning lather. I quit...

    Mergress and bad razor burn

I don’t believe the adjustment impacts the blade curvature on the Progress, only the blade gap changes. That’s one thing that makes a Progress different from other adjustables like the vintage Gillette’s. Ultimately, yes, I think my issue here is blade angle, especially on my chin.

    Mergress and bad razor burn

Another attempt today. My chin grumbled at me most of the day. And I didn’t even get a close shave at all on my chin. I hear what everyone is saying about blades, razors and shave angles but here’s the thing. I can shave irritation free with a Merkur slant, a Gillette Slim or Fat Boy and even a...

Are there any fans of the Derby Extra out there...?

Most folks pair blades with razors but for me the pairing is the weather. Specifically, the relative humidity. My dry weather, typically winter, blade is the Derby Extra. They are sometimes inconsistent but cheap enough when you get a bad one to just throw it away and start a new one. Good for...

    Mergress and bad razor burn

Ok, much better today. 7’Oclock blade and as @dabrock suggested, rode the guard a little more, probably a little too much more as the shave wasn’t that close but certainty was more comfortable. So I’m getting there. Maybe. Astra blades come Friday.

    Mergress and bad razor burn

Very helpful guys. I’m going to order the Astra SP blades. I’ve been seeing lots of recommendations for those anyways and they are too cheap not to try. As for the angle, I think this is something too - need to ensure I’m not scraping. Shave was better today. Still not irritation free but much...

    Mergress and bad razor burn

i have checked and rechecked the assembly as suggested. Blade cap is on correctly. Blade alignment and gap is consistent. I did my first shave at 1. Thats where my troubles began. Tried a 7 O’clock blade this morning. Cut fine. Just did three passes instead of my usual four. We will see how my...
