North Texas B&B: General Location and Time of 8-17-13 Meeting?

Woohoo! Closer to me! I'm a strong "probable" for that location.

    DFW Get-together?

I'm inclined to add Drug Emporium to the list of vendors (once I confirm they still carry the stuff). It's a pretty lean selection, but they do/did have some proper wetshaving gear, albeit on the low end. Injector blades, the usual Clubman/Pinaud stuff (but I don't think I saw the complete...

i dont see much talk about dovo and other higher end razors

I own a new 6/8 Ralf Aust and it's an excellent blade. It arrived as sharp as any razor I've ever used. It shaves very well. I had to get used to the curve of the toe, but only because I had been using square-point razors a lot lately. I highly recommend it. He knows what he's doing.

    DFW Get-together?

I've asked around, and the places I've asked have all said something like "no" or "we mail everything to someplace in (another state)." The online razor replating guys are probably the best bet unless you've got everything stripped yourself and have a large enough order to make it...

Handheld gaming device "like" a smartphone . ?

I'll add a vote for the iPod touch. Alternately, and I don't know if Angry Birds is available for it, but Nintendo DSes are more durable than a Touch and are very popular. Deservedly so, I think.

It does take a while to get good shaves with SE razors. Don't give up on the Gem G bar. I think the "gold standard" for "face polishing" is the open comb Micromatic, but you'll find lots of people love SE razors. I personally prefer DE and straights, but that's not because the SEs don't deliver...

You know you are entering The South when.

Nothing wrong with brisket done well. I keep seeing recipes (obviously by barbecue-hating interlopers) that say you cook a brisket for 5 hours...which is less than half the time it should take. I haven't cooked a brisket yet, but (a) I've watched my father-in-law, and (b) I've watched my friends...

You know you are entering The South when.

I just read this thread front to back (waiting on a compile to finish, and yes, on Friday night) and I'm so homesick for Alabama I could just cry. AND I LIVE IN TEXAS, so it's not like I have any right to really complain, except about the 108 degree days in August and the fact they think beef is...

Jack Knife Ben, Union Stockyards "Melba" razor

My Jack Knife Ben "Melba" is a great razor and the second razor I honed myself. Additional information: my scales are Ebonite (hard vulcanized rubber; smell like sulfur when they get warm). I think they're original scales but I could be wrong.

    Green Mountain Shaving Soap?

Hi .soap., Welcome to B&B. Throughout the entire process of testing the shaving soap, and throughout my five years on B&B, I have been careful to avoid shilling for my parents' business. I receive no income from their soap company (though I do get soap for free, if you're splitting hairs). I...

While the puck works fine as-is, I agree with folks who shred and re-press the soap into another container. It does lather easier that way. Can't wait to hear about the results, either way. I'm seeing a pattern of good results, but it's always great to see people's individual experiences.

    DFW Get-together?

Very smart, Daniel -- every product should get the benefit of several attempts at testing, and you are going way above and beyond to actually finish products before starting new ones. Kudos. (Also, I'm sure your shave den doesn't need quite the lebensraum that some dens need...)
