Recommendations for DE blade with the best sharp/smooth balance?

Astra SP, Parker Premium, Derby Premium see to have a good balance between sharpness, smoothness, and forgiveness. Feathers are sharper and smoother but not very forgiving.

    Parker razor blades?

I like Parker Premium blades. Not enough to order them when Astra SP is a little sharper and cheaper. To me they fall between ASP and Derby Premiums, a little less sharp than ASP and a little smoother than DP, with all three blades being very close In performance.

    What's your post shave order?

I use a/s first to disinfect / “seal” the skin, then WH to calm it down, then balm for moisture and conditioning. Applying a/s after WH causes a burning sensation and pretty much negates the soothing effect of WH.

The state of the industry in 2020

A relatively new untapped market, demand exceeds supply, so the new vendors are rushing in and there's an explosive growth. At some point, supply exceeds demand, and some of the vendors exit the market. Then, it stabilizes.

Shaved twice today - have an early meeting and want to save another 15 minutes of sleep. So ended up shaving in the evening as well. Never-ending Arko stick, Maggard 26mm synthetic brush, Muhle R41 with Personna Blue (2), Aqua Velva Ice Blue followed by Dickinson’s WH, and finally some Eucerin...

What's In Your Inventory - Expendables

At my current rate of one blade a week (shaving 5-7 times), that’s 192 years worth of blades. Now, that’s what I call being prepared !

What's In Your Inventory - Expendables

Hmm, let’s see.. Soap - 12 Arko sticks. The original stick lasted me about 8 months and I am still working on the stub, these are slightly larger... - a large can of Soap Commander Courage, still with about 80% left. Blades - 400 Astra SP - 200 Feathers - 100 Derby Premiums. Well I’ve...

    Anyone actually saving money?

I did not switch to wet shaving to save money, but I certainly could. $20-25 for a decent razor (just one), $11 for a good quality synthetic brush, $120 (give or take) for 10 years’ worth of good blades, $12 for a dozen Arko sticks that should last me to the end of decade, that’s about $16 or...

    Am or Pm?

Morning. I don’t like the feel of my stubble and I don’t like walking around the entire day looking disheveled. This is a habit from the times when my beard was pitch black and with my pale face I’d get a 5 o’clock shadow at noon. Now it’s mostly gray, but I still prefer to start the day clean...

Are Feathers a lot sharper than Astra blades?

Astras were my blade of choice until I discovered Feathers. To me, Feathers are like Astra Deluxe - everything that I like about ASP but just a little better.

Razorock German 37 Slant is very picky about its blades

Revisiting this thread... Parker Premium blades are even better than Derby Premium in this particular razor, a match made in heaven. No special technique. If anything, it‘s less sensitive to the blade angle than some of my other razors. Which Derbys had you tried ? It is my understanding that...

Try Parker Platinum blades. They came with my Variant and when I tried them in a slant, got a perfect shave.

Not on the same level as Feather. Slightly less sharp than Astra but very close. I’d say in the same general league overall. Put it this way - not my #1 blade but I would have no problem using only Derby Premiums if I had no other choice. One razor they absolutely shine in is Razorock German...

Decided to try something new today. There‘s still a few untried blades out of my original sample pack bought when I started wet shaving almost a year ago. So, today, I opened a pack of Rapira SuperStainless, and used them with Maggard V3A and Soap Commander Courage. It is not the sharpest blade...
