    When I want a no-nick, no-weeper, no-cut shave, I use Arko

I'd like to join the "me too" on Arko drying out the face. It's not that bad for me I just use a post shave balm like Nivea or Dove. Scent is is overblown it smells like Ivory bath soap.

The moustache area and a 4th pass

Try a different blade. Also remember to make faces to stretch out the skin to a flat surface on the moustache area. Get a Muhle R41 it's good to have a more aggressive razor for those days of longer beard growth.

Opinions on inexpensive Razorock/Maggard Razors as a gift

I own Maggards V3A and enjoy using on the longer MR7 handle. I find myself reaching for this razor often and enjoying the shaves. One time I shaved 2 weeks of moustache growth easily with no tugging or pulling. For only $20 it's money well spent.

Pick only one soap: what would it be and why?

It would have to be something mentholated from Stirling. As of right now my only experience has been Stirling Frozen Tundra I absolutely love it. I can generate a thick lather with almost the consistency as Barbasol but very slick. The menthol feeling is amazing especially here in the AZ summer...

Need to rethink the Pass 3 idea?

Do what works for you. I guess less passes does reduce the risk of getting sliced but as others have said you could also get cut on your first pass. Or you could focus on your technique. I sometimes get cut because I get overly comfortable and shave recklessly.

What causes a good lather to dissipate?

I have not experienced my boar brushes choking lather since I started soaking them in RO purified water or distilled. I also use the dreaded Semogue OC and Semogue 830 which are well known for disappearing lather. I also get three passes of lather off one load from a shave stick Arko, La Toja...
