Earlier today I had a lovely shave with a Friodur 72-V that's on loan from a friend. He was kind enough to let me try his while waiting for mine to arrive in June. Super smooth and comfortable. I loved it! Happy shaves everyone! :)

May 2021 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

Today, I used a Friodur 72-V, 6/8ths near wedge (or is it quarter hollow?), that was on loan from a friend. I'm expecting mine to arrive in about a month and he was kind enough to let me try his and get an idea of what it feels like. The rest of the setup consisted of my standard brush and soap...

Thank you, John! :) Hahaha, I like goat, too, in principle. Traditionally, we have lamb for lunch on Easter day, in Greece. However, some people, or dare I say apostates, prefer and have goat on the day. Less fat and smell or so they say. :a31: Straights require some dedication. It's more...

    Hang's Harangues

If you think that a blade suits you, but it is not as sharp as you'd prefer, perhaps you could try some different techniques to increase the effectiveness, if you feel like. For example, the Gillette slide helped me get a bit more comfort in tougher spots and the result was closer. I transferred...

Thank you, Thom! :) I reverted back to shaving almost daily a while ago. At the time, there was barely enough stubble to shave every day and it was very coarse. I'm not sure if I can give a correct answer, but I think it's the edges that changed, along with some improvement on my technique. In...

I got my first vaccine shot two days ago and I am super happy. Yesterday, I was feeling quite sick, but today it was time to celebrate with a nice shave. It's also the Orthodox Easter today, so it's double the celebration. The setup included the Friodur 72 1/2, the Simpsons 59 and the Fat. A...

After a few months of hiatus, I'm back in and will stay for the rest of the year. Straight razor shaving refueled my ADs and I went on a buying and selling spree since the last time. However, I consider my setup being complete now. 1) FoolishMortal 2) Doti B 3) MtView 4) wmadoty 5) Herrenberg...

It's been a while since my last update, as things got busy at work and at home. I spent quite some time these past days on honing so that I start understanding how my Coticule behaves. I'm happy with the progress so far, but I definitely need more experience to get the most out of it. Four of my...

Mail call! After 48 days on the road, my, made in Sheffield, Jonh Cockhill razor in here. I'm super happy about it. Even though it came shave ready, I will hone it first before shaving. The last few days, I am fortunate enough to have on loan from a friend some fantastic razors from his...

GC.68OC, GOLD GRANDE, YAQI CHROME MELLON - A JOURNEY

Congrats on the new razor! I often find that I prefer the edge after a couple of shaves than fresh from the hone. Glad you found a full hollow that is to your liking. :)

    saponificio veriseno

It's just a soap and IME most products in the market today can get the job done very well. The original review, perhaps strongly worded, is referring to the soap, IMHO. I don't see any attempt to belittle the users of the said soap. Thus, I still don't see a point in this discussion. Someone...

    The Wanderer's Journey

Unfortunately, that was the case for me. They could have worked in a larger rotation, but, since I tend to use a soap almost continuously on a monthly basis, I had to quit by the tenth shave.

    saponificio veriseno

I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that someone who tried an expensive soap and didn't find it any better than other, perhaps lower-cost, offerings, is biased. In my point of view, he is just writing a review and expressing an opinion. I also don't understand why you support...

IME, the reserve base from B&M never explodes. You have to monitor the slickness to identify when it is ready. I guess that's what they call low-structure lather. Despite what they say, I used to load it quite heavily to get a good lather. I'm glad that your wife recovered from it.

I still need to test a few more possible edges and I will write some of my findings at some point. I am happy that the Coticule plus Chromox combination worked exceptionally well today. Time will tell if I prefer this to the Naniwa 12k plus Chromox edges. Today, I would say yes. Happy shaves...
