Thoughts on the new les lats?

Had a shave with the les lat side and it was a very pleasant shave! It doesn't seem to be as fine as my 5x2 but it was definitely a good shave. I would say it is probably the 2nd finest coticule I have honed on and decently smooth. The razor was a nice Japanese hollow ground I have that always...

Thoughts on the new les lats?

I like to use the Norton honing oil on my other stone. With this stone being double sided and one side definitly going to be water/progression side I will probably use some dishsoap. I might make a video sometime this week with the stone, very fun to use.

Thoughts on the new les lats?

Tested the yellow part in a shave today and it was was decent shave (better than the average coticule but not anything crazy). I enjoyed the feedback and it seems to be pretty fast but I have not tested it a bunch. The hybrid side took awhile to lap. Decently hard and it was not incredibly...

Thoughts on the new les lats?

I don't believe he does any test on the stones before selling them. I think it will definitely be a good stone, I just think my current one is finer haha. I really wanted to test out the hybrid side of a coticule and if anything I can make my fine coticule (5x2) an oil only stone and use this...

Thoughts on the new les lats?

Checked the mail as I was leaving to be out of town and the stone came in. Won't be able to test it out until Sunday 😔. Don't think It will be as fine as my other coticule but i shall see after testing. Regardless it is a cool 6x2 stone to have

Thoughts on the new les lats?

There's a guy that gets them sometimes on Facebook groups. Pulled the trigger on a 6x2 one will post updates when it arrives

    What did you hone today?

Helje in my profile pic was on the hones today. I reset the bevel with the 2k hr glass stone (needed it sort of badly haha, been shaving with it for roughly 3 years with only coticule/jnat touchups maybe a 5k here and there). Sat for a day or so since I have been busy but tried out the 6k HC...

Thoughts on the new les lats?

Thinking about adding one of the new coticule les lats that have been coming out of the mine recently. Curious how you guys have liked them so far? I already have a nice finishing coticule/ark/jnat and blah but wanted a lat in the collection because why not. cheers

    What did you hone today?

I hear it is the best way for surgical sharp edges, haha

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I use Norton honing oil and it has worked great on my coticules. I usually only need 50 or so laps and my go to coticule is 5x2. Coticule edges can be the best thing ever, however it is harder to find a really good one. A lot of them can get a decent edge with oil but finding that great one...

    Straight razor “simonizing”

I use just a regular bathroom rag to wipe my razor (a light stropping motion after each pass to keep bevel clean ish between passes). After the shave I do a better job at drying with a clean t shirt and some good stropping. Every now and then I will use some metal polish (I use mothers...

Thoughts on swapping from naniwa to shapton glass

Went ahead and got the 2k and 6k. Figured with the 2k I don't have to lap the 1k as often (use it for knife sharpening as well). Will update with my thoughts when they arrive

Thoughts on swapping from naniwa to shapton glass

Thanks @Steve56 for the suggestions. I really appreciate it. The 20k edge is definitely one I enjoy occasionally (a friend's edge) but my go to is usually my jnat or coticule. I think I will try out the 6k hc to replace the 5k and see what I think of the shapton glass stones. Depending on...

Thoughts on swapping from naniwa to shapton glass

Hmm if I am to get rid of the 5k and the 8k naniwa with possible plans of getting a gok 20k (keeping the ol 12k naniwa). Should I go just the 6k hc since I have 1k chosera? 2k and 6k hc? Or 4k and 8k hr? Oh decisions 😔 I feel like normally I will just go 6k for touch ups then the jnat or...

Coticule love... show off your rock

Man I have been craving a full size coticule (and hunting) forever. Visiting this thread always makes me go "maybe I should grab another small finishing one as well just in case" haha. Almost had one but it slipped away in an auction sadly The worst was when that one guy was scoring those...

Thoughts on swapping from naniwa to shapton glass

Yea I know the 3k naniwa makes a good stone but the fewer stones the better for me. I do like to sharpen my knife but I usually just use 1k synthetic then a jnat so no worries there. Might watch some videos on the stone and or try one out. Still undecided for now

Thoughts on swapping from naniwa to shapton glass

Thought I would ask for opinions as I am thinking about changing up my synthetic progression. Currently I have a chosera 1k (keeping it as I love the green brick), naniwa ss 5k/8k/12k (the thick versions). Normally I just go to the 5k and then swap to naturals (jnat or coticule). Sometimes...

What straight did you use today? Now with PICTURES

3/8 Le grelot with a coticule edge. Castle forbes lime shaving cream :) Thought my mk 30 was a small razor ha! Got a very nice 3 pass shave out of the razor and looking forward to the next 4 shaves. Took off a few days growth without any problems (just a lot of rinsing lather off )
