    New Pinaud Whiskey Woods AS

A while back, my barber gave me a bottle of the Whiskey Woods. I had a beard at the time, so I just tucked it away. A couple of weeks ago, I shaved off my beard, so I decided to give it a try. It's more subtle than other Pinauds, but there's a hint of a family resemblance. For the most part, the...

Got a new favorite lavender - what's yours?

I think that the best clean lavender fragrance I've ever had was an aftershave from Caldey Island in Wales. It isn't expensive, but it was hard to get for a while. I think that the EU made it difficult to ship worldwide. Now it seems to be up on their site again, but I don't know what the...

    Penhaligon's Discontinued Scents

Oh, that's sad. Their offerings have been all over the place for the past few years, so this shouldn't be a surprise. I went to the Pen's shop in Century City in LA sometime around Thanksgiving in 2018. The displays in the store were all focused on their animal-headed ranges, and their...

What do you consider your # Sandalwood frag?

I kind of like Villoresi's Sandalo. Also not a pure sandalwood--there's a lot going on in it.

Has your fragrance collection gotten out of control?

I picked up a bottle in Little Osaka in LA the last time I was there, so you can find it around in the US. Amazon has it, but it's in a package of 6 bottles ($35 and free shipping). That might be a lot of Lucido.

    Signature Scents List

I remember reading that Sinatra went through Agua Lavanda Puig cologne like nobody's business. Seems like it's out of production now, but you can still get the soap and the body splash.

Has your fragrance collection gotten out of control?

Do you mean you're trying to match your aftershave to an EDT? I'd give up on that and get a good neutral aftershave instead. Mandom Lucido is a nice one. They you don't have to worry with something clashing.

Has your fragrance collection gotten out of control?

I think my frag collecting peaked eight or nine years ago. Now I'm working my way back down.

    Bond James Bond... what fragrance?

Yes--I have a much-loved bottle of that. Klorane makes a pretty good quinine shampoo. I picked up a bottle once, inspired by some fantasy of making my life just a little more Bond-like.

Watch is stuck in nowhere land.....

You reminded me that it's time for me to send my Submariner off for maintenance. Now what am I going to do?

Clubman owners/lovers - how many varieties are in your den right now?

I think I have Clubman, Special Reserve, and Lilac Veg right now. I got rid of bottles of Musk and Vanilla when I was cleaning out the bathroom. I have quinine and Portugal hair tonic too. Somewhere I have a bottle of the newish Whiskey Woods that my barber gave me--I should look for that.

    Bond James Bond... what fragrance?

All I can remember is that he liked Clubman shampoo. Wasn't it the quinine one?

Sharp Dressed Man vs. Green Irish Tweed

I think you can occasionally get a good price on Creed at higher end department stores. A year or so ago when I was living in LA, I saw some holiday sales at Bloomingdale's--maybe 25% off. If we are talking GIT knockoffs, you might want to try Cool Water. I actually like it better.

Japan's Shoeshine Champions Explain Proper Shoe Care – Put This On

That's so cool. There's something about a nicely shined shoe or boot. One of the things that has really confused me about the popularity of expensive work boots among younger people in recent years is the tendency to beat the crap out of them, to use too much oil or conditioner and not enough...

    Clubman Facial Hair Products

I had a tube of Clubman mustache wax for ages--at least a couple of years. I used it once in a while and it seemed to hold up OK.

    Vintage Laces

Unfortunately not metal. Now that I think about it, I don't have metal tipped laces on any of my boots these days. I did put kevlar laces on a couple of pairs of outdoor boots--they seem to be a pretty low-end improvement.

    Vintage Laces

A while ago, I picked up a pair of suede Wolverine 1000 milers. I wasn't really in the market for a new pair of boots, but the color caught my eye and I thought, what the heck. Since I'm into my fourth week of working from home, I don't really have anywhere to wear them, but that hasn't kept me...

What did you guys do to your razor collection? since this subforum is full of beards.

I grew out my beard about three years ago and since then, I've sported a long, full one. The other day, I buzzed it all off on an impulse. Pulled the old DEs, brush, soap, etc. out of the cupboard. I'll probably grow the beard back later, but it's kind of fun to be shaving again.

    Gun Oil Scent?

Mod Cabin makes Gunbarrel beard oil. It isn't quite Hoppe's, but it's pretty good.
