First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

Used Bengal near this morning with a new Method edge. Needless to say a great close shave but after using stone edges for the past week or two I got used to using a little pressure to get the job done. I must’ve carried that into the shave this morning as my face was a bit red and stingy. Note...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I just did a HHT on my method edged Turner & co and it cut fine on the heel and the middle but wouldnt pass the HHT on the toe. How far should I take it back grit-wise to work on the toe? Looking under the loup the bevel is much thinner near the toe. Plus I hone one handed with the block in my left.

I agree with doing more laps than specified it seems to help me too.

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I used my Thomas Turner 5/8ths today for the first time since I put a method edge on it about a week or so ago. After a week spent honing and shaving with slates and coticules I was really looking forward to treating myself to a great edge. I’d cut near my ear yesterday with the square point I’d...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

At last some success with the coticule. I could tell from the beginning that I’d done a better edge today and for the first time I felt the cotis smoothness and comfort. I got a 95% all over bbs and my best coti shave to date. Smooth as it was it wasn’t as smooth as a good balsa edge but at...

    Your favorite razor edge?

Same here, it’s an amazing edge

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

Tried the coticule edge this morning and it was noticeably improved but still not what I’d call good. Under the loup the bevel looked pitted and there was a tiny chip in the middle. I took it back to 1500k film honing in hand, I got the chip out quickly enough but struggled to get the worst of...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

Yes I’ve been using the the yellow side, it hadn’t even occurred to me to examine the opposite side. I don’t know where my coti is from

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

Thanks a lot for the advice Slash I’ve got some engine oil in the boot and the soap or lather sounds good. I already had this razor finished on 1u lapping film so I thought I’d just be able to finish it on the coticule with running water as it was already at the finishing stage. But the shave...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

Thanks for the advice and it’s needed as today’s coticule shave was pretty rubbish. I had to work hard to get real close and my usually bbs face isn’t as smooth as normal. I’d optimistically thought I’d get an instant fine shave from it but it looks like I’ll have to work at it. This is no bad...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I shaved off the larger Welsh slate yesterday and it was ok but not great so I re honed the razor on it last night. It has two sides lapped by the seller so I switched sides for last nights hone. When I last honed on it from the 1u film it took about 30 laps to stick to the stone but last night...

Well... I didn't die!! (first SR shave)

Well done, I can still remember my first straight shave, it was an adrenaline rush especially the left handed parts. 100 shaves is a generally accepted figure but you may be able to be getting pretty much bbs everywhere by 30. But yes the learning doesn’t stop and you’ll get infinitely better...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I shaved today with the Gold Dollar which I honed on the smaller slate and am pleased to see I didn’t hate the edge at all. It was very smooth and sharp and gave a great enjoyable shave. Id feared that after using the balsa id be underwhelmed by anything less but this wasn’t the case. It didn’t...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I honed 2 of my 3 non method razors on the two pieces of Welsh slate I have. They’re both different with the larger stone supposedly the finest but I’ve had very good results from both. After about just 30 or so light laps the razors began to stick so I lightened up until they were pretty much...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

When I last took my razors back to coarse grits I was an absolute beginner honer. My edges since have been fine but I always felt they could be better. I recently started using the Method. The edges were light years away from what I’d gotten before. But to use slash’s phrase ‘best results are...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I used the Turner 5/8ths this morning what a brilliant shave. But I noticed it not cutting the hanging hair on the last half inch of the toe. As I said the shave was amazing but that little bit bothered me as I’d gone a long way to making this edge perfect and I use that last bit of the toe...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

I knew this would happen. After using the Method edged Friodur for a few shaves I now never want to shave with anything less. Last week I took all of my 7 razors back to 4K them 8k films all set and ready for whatever finisher I’d decide on for each. Today I brought them all up to 1u film...

First time using a ‘Method’ edge.

It’s definitely a look into the future, this edge should have taken me a lifetime to learn. A lifetime of living in a cave honing all day every day, studying stones and steels and crazy ideas. This is the edge I should’ve got the morning I died. My final and best edge I ever did. The result of a...
