I got this soap in a little silver shaving bowl as part of the limited-time special at the Saint Charles Shave website. $14 for a nice little bowl filled with soap doesn't seem like a bad price, but it's of course available separately.
I don't need to bore you with a recitation of the typical SCS qualities - this is great soap for shaving, makes a comfortable, protective lather, and seems to leave a nice slick coating that persists even after a razor stroke. Very forgiving. Great for face-lathering or bowl lathering. The cake I have cracked after a couple uses but it hasn't in the least affected the utility of the soap. It's fairly soft, so I don't think it will last as long as a triple-milled soap, but you'll still probably get at least a few months out of it, and for $4.50 a refill it's not going to be a financial burden.
Finally, the smell! Amazing! A fresh, complicated, spicy green smell, classic and masculine without being fusty or old-fashioned. I just love it. It fades rapidly after the shave, which is fine because I wouldn't want it to conflict with a cologne, but during the shave it's amazingly fragrant. Really a great soap.
