Queen Charlotte Soaps Sandalwood

Item Description

Queen Charlotte Soaps Sandalwood is a very nice all around cream.
Lathers very well and has a nice pleasing scent. Shipping was fast and packed well. Here's the breakdown:
Price: You can't beat the price. Very reasonable for the quality of the product.
Quality: Top marks for quality. The soap is like a thick cream. It looks to be well made just from opening the lid. Swirl a little on your brush and you can make nice thick lather with little effort.
Scent: The scent is nice. It didn't amaze me, but it's pleasant. I found that it smelled a little off when it was in the container. When you make the lather it changes to be more pleasant. It's not a spicy kind of sandalwood, it is very mild and woody.
Latherability: It lathers like the big boys. I'd have no problem stacking it up against a soap or cream that costs 3 times as much. The lather is thick and is very easy to make. It is easy to control how much water is needed and I was able to make enough for two passes using minimal soap. This is the soaps best asset.
Efficacy: The soap does what it claims to do and it does it very well. The lather is easy to make, the scent is pleasant and it performs wonderfully.
Moisturizing Properties: I didn't notice any great moisturizing, but I didn't find it dry either.
Packaging: The tubs are good. They seem solid. The labels need a little work, but overall a nice look.

The final assessment is this; It's a great soap all around.

Pros: Everything?
Cons: Nothing to speak of.
Really not much else to add. Considering it's scented with genuine Mysore Sandalwood, it's a must for anyone that chases that particular note. If you love QED Sandalwood, you'll love this one, too. Price - Not bad at all. Again, considering it uses healthy amounts of real Sandalwood EO, folks should expect the price to be higher. I e-mailed Matt asking about a cream with even moar EO; he quoted me a very reasonable price. Quality - Superb. I prefer the quality of Matt's creams to many that are so highly thought of on the forum, including the three T's, AOS, etc. Scent - Already noted. Latherability - a pea-sized amount results in gobs of shiny, slick lather. For the full tub, treat it like a soft soap. For samples, I rub some on my face and then take to it with a wet brush. Efficacy - Gets the job done in spades. Awesome! Packaging - Plain plastic tub. I think Matt could easily update his packaging, though; the contents are certainly worth it. QCS comes highly recommended by me!

The price has gone up, but it is still a steal. This soft soap/dense cream produces a remarkable lather. I received a tub as a gift before Christmas, and I just realized I have used it every day since. I have never abandoned my rotation before now. It is a little softer than Proraso soap, but it should last as long or longer. It comes in a bigger tub.

I like the scent, but it is not as strong as the AoS sandalwood soap, my favorite sandalwood. The lather resembles a super-lather (a cream plus a soap). It quickly fills the scuttle with little effort. Thick andrich, very dense. It doesn't thin out or dry on my face. I was summoned by SWMBO Sunday morning to assist with a chore after lathering. Some soaps would have dried and flaked from my face in the time I was away. I can think of one that starts with a W.

I have no complaints or reservations. There are no real drawbacks. This is truly a delightful product. I am eagerly awaiting the vetiver and the rose.

Price: At $7.50+s/h, it's a bargain. Don't let the 4oz size fool you--it's a very dense, concentrated cream.

Quality: Exceptional. For the price, there's nothing better to be had, and it's still my goto for an easy, comfortable, sweet-smelling lather.

Scent: This one took a while. Initially, I was a bit put off -- I'd been used to the much smokier GFT sandalwood. This one is much sweeter, recalling more memories of home and hearth than fantasies of elephants and adventure. It's grown on me, though, and I rank it above GFT and far above TOBS sandalwood, though a bit under Harris Marlborough.

Latherability: This is where QCS shines. It's a thick, comfortable, protective tallowy lather, and it's easy to whip up. For me, it's nearly to the level of Tabac or MWF, which puts it at a 9, but it gets the extra point for easiness putting it at a perfect 10. Great for those nights/mornings where you just need a great shave but don't feel like working for it.

Moisturizing: I've got moist skin, so I don't really notice moisturizing at the best of times.

Packaging: Simple plastic tub. The labels tend to smear a little when wet, but not to the point it affects readability. Most importantly, the packaging doesn't adversely affect the price and does its job admirably.

Also, NB that Matt offers 1oz samples (way more cream than your normal sample) for a reasonable price -- no reason not to try them all.
