Pré de Provence After-Shave Balm

Pros: Soothing, milky texture, great scent, nice value.
Cons: None
Based on good reviews I had been waiting to buy a tube of this and finally did at Pasteur/NYC-- even though I already have several different ASBs to finish. Very pleased with my purchase!

I would put this ASB on the level of L'Occitane Cade ASB which is about twice the price for 1/3 of the portion. The milky, shea butter texture felt great on my face and moisturized nicely. The scent was an unexpected pleasure. Best of all, the price is right.

Pros: Love the smell, moisturizes but not greasy
Cons: Bit on the expensive side but you don't need much
Let me get out my disclaimer, I'm a newbie and the PdP is part of my starter kit. So my point of reference is limited but I do like this stuff. Even use it on days when I don't shave.

Had some nasty razor burn with my last shave but did get it BBS. PdP helped the burn which eventually went away after a few hours. I suspect there are better products out there to deal with the burn though. I shave at night and my skin still felt moist when I woke up. Not greasy but my skin felt really smooth.

I grabbed some Nivea and Pinaud on the way home from work. Combined they cost as much as the PdP so that's my reference point. So we'll see how the Nivea handles the close shaves.

I recommend this product and am eager to try their other products. Its in the mid-price spectrum for an AS so give it a try.

Update: Got some samples; Fine and Trumper. Love the Fine products smells Fresh Vetiver and American Blend. Also, bought Speick Balsam. Speick is a real close second to PdP neck and neck (pun intended). So to date PdP is still my #1, but I would buy more Speick too.

After using PdP many times, and a bunch of sample comparisons since my first review, I'm increasing my review upward. I really like this stuff.

Pros: Wonderful Scent, Moisturizing, Non-Greasy,
Cons: Doesn't Fight Razor Burn
Like all PdP products, the quality is excellent. It's only a few dollars more than Proraso balm, and in my opinion it's a better quality product.
The scent is similar to the shave soap (also excellent), which I can only describe as smelling very clean and crisp. I wouldn't describe it as floral. Think sage and rosemary with heavy overtones of french soap. The scent fades within about 2 hours.
It doesn't fight razor burn (at least for me), but it is soothing. That is, it will help razor burn to feel better due to the heavy moisturizing, but it doesn't reduce redness, and it has no cooling effect.
This balm pairs great with menthol or lime products. I absolutely love it with the Ogallala Sage/Cedar lineup. Recommended.

Pros: Nice scent, moisturizing but not greasy, soothes razor burn.
Cons: None yet.
New to DE Shaving, this after shave balm is perfect. Great scent (though like other's said, only lasts about 2 hours, though) and the Shea Butter helps moisturizer without being greasy. Perfect consistency, I love it. Not ungodly expensive, as well. About $17.00 including shipping on eBay.

Pros: Feels Good, Smells Good, NICE
I'm only 5 months into wet shaving andthis is the first top shelf balm I've tried. I like the packaging of this frnech made product. It's classy. At first when I smelled it at the supplier's [West Coast Shaving] I thought it was too feminine, but the fragrance grew on me, sort of lavendery. The main thing I like about this balm is if I use a blade that burns, this balm makes it calm down fast. For regular shaves when i dont get irritation, it just feels good after applying it. It's velvety smooth. It's cool. All I know is that I like using it and I will definitely be buying more.

Pros: Effective, non-greasy, pleasant scent
This ASB works very well without leaving greasy residue on my face. I find myself reaching for this ASB about 40% of the time, and my L'Occitane CADE the other 60%. It's not that the L'Occitane is more effective, it's just that I love the CADE scent.

This is a great under rated product. Their soap is among the best I have tried.

I just want to second (and third and fourth) all the good things about this aftershave balm. I decided to get rid of all menthol and alcohol-based products and this stuff really has helped alot! Its nice and thick, more like a moisturizer, and has a good smell (sage, woodsy, etc.). While it doesn't have a cooling effect, since there's no menthol, it does have a nice tingly effect that, for me, has the same outcome.
This is hands down the best balm I've used in terms of soothing razor burn.

At $15, it's solidly on the cheap side of the lineup, and the scent (identical to PdP's shaving soap) is pleasant and clean, although it's nothing spectacular and fades quickly. It is very moisturizing and not at all tacky or sticky, even when applied a bit too enthusiastically. I bet it does wonders for dry skin. Even with my somewhat greasy skin type, the moisturizing feels pleasant and healthy.

Where this balm really shines is its soothing properties. One day, just to test this, I intentionally threw a weak lather onto my face without doing a good beard prep and shaved way too fast. The sting of my alum block told me I had done a fantastic job shaving poorly, but a minute or two after applying this balm, my face felt better than it had before my shave.

Amazing product.

I'm such a huge fan of Pre de Provence ASB. It's hands down my favorite ASB. I think that the Shea Butter in it just does absolute wonders. Additionally, the scent is just great and it doesn't linger too long (even though I wish it would). It's half the price of the L'Occitane ASB's and works just as well. It leaves my skin feeling really moisturized after I apply it. Kids make sure you have this in your shaving arsenal...

This was my first "nice" after shave, and I'll admit I was pretty excited to get it in the mail. The packaging oozes tradition and quality -- everything about its appearance is top notch. I assumed that the shea butter would be more moisturizing, though... I've found it just doesn't combat razor irritation and dryness like I want it to. The scent is quite classy, yes, classy is the word. My friend described it as "hotel", abruptly adding "Uh, french hotel, it smells really good." Most of my female friends also love the scent, just a little soapy and floral for my tastes. Scent lasts about 2 hours. No cooling sensation to speak of so it won't wake you up like other aftershaves. Great product for the price, but I'm not sure if I'd order again.

I agree pretty much with the previous review, except that it's one of my favorite scents out there. I also own the shave soap, which is great stuff too.

My favorite, I can't believe nobody has reviewed it yet. Produced in the Provence (Southern France), enriched with shae butter.

Price: Around $14, mid-price section, justified.

Quality: Top quality, dries up quickly.

Fights Razor Burn: It doesn't even burn when I apply it, which makes it my no. 1 choice after a rougher shave (e.g. old or low quality blade). Maybe the shae butter has something to do with it.

Cooling Sensation: not really, but I'm not looking for one.

Scent: I think it's great, I tried to place it & I would say that it goes into the sage direction. My wife says it's soapy & it's not her favorite. That's why it's also my no. 1 choice when I want to wind down after a nice shave & go to sleep fast :tongue_sm

Efficacy: Very effective, it soothes & moisturizes without burning, basically it does exactly what I expect from an ASB.

Moisturizing: Great moisturizing capabilities, I usually apply it to most of my face.

No Alcohol Burn: It doesn't contain alcohol, and it's probably the ASB with the least burning sensation that I've tried so far (e.g. Art of Shaving, C&E Nomad, Nivea, Brut).

Try it & let me know what you think.
