Lord Platinum Class

Item Description

This review comes after 3 blades from the same box over the course of 2 weeks. All shaves were with a Merkur HD slant with varying creams and soaps.

Price: High priced, but not top tier. What you would expect for any company's top line blade. Roughly $.30 per blade in single box purchases.

Quality: Again, this is Lord's top of the line blade. It is swedish stainless steel, double coated with teflon, has no glue or other odd quirks and to the naked eye appears to be extremely well made.

Sharpness: Top notch. Not a Feather, but then what else is. Certainly comparable to Swedes, Gillette green or black box, Bolzano, Astra or any other top end blade.

Longevity: Here is the main weakness of this blade. The first shave is good, the second and the third are spectacular, but at the end of the fourth shave the blade noticeably fell off. With all three blades I used I got no nicks or weepers of any kind through the first three shaves, but all three of them gave some kind of damage on the fourth shave. I dont normally use a blade for more than 3-4 shaves anyhow, but I would like to have the ability to do so if I choose to. I don't like a blade that has such a clear indication that it is done.

Smoothness of shave: Eliminating the final shave in the life of each blade I used I would say smoothness is this blades strongest, of many, strong points. After the first pass of the first shave with each blade the passes were all of the type where you are questioning whether or not you have a blade in the razor. Excellent!

Packaging: Also a weak point of this blade. Cardboard box containing double wrapped blades. A big waste here.

Cons: Price-value ratio
I don't know if Lord sells one blade in multiple packaging or what , but I have tried them all (Crown, Big Ben, Racer, Stainless, Super Stainless Blue/White, Super Stainless Green/White, etc.). I thought the "Platinum Class" would be different maybe. I was disappointed yet again. Lord blades just do not hold up to multiple shaves! This blade is loud, rough feeling, and dulls almost immediately. The typical three pass shave is just ok as a result, but the five o'clock shadow starts at about 3 o'clock so it is not a long-lasting close shave really. This combined with the fact that this is a two shave blade maximum is not acceptable for a "platinum class" blade. I believe Lord is really only selling one or two stainless steel blades with different packaging to match the marketing scheme. I mean, how could one company in Alexandria Egypt possibly make ten+ different blades. It's just not possible. I still prefer the Personna Blue at half the cost.

Not one of my favorite blades. A lot of drag in my DE 89. Better in my Jaws OC but still not optimal. Probably my least favorite blade thus far.

Pros: Nice sharp and smooth blade, eco freindly packaging.
Cons: Eco freindly packaging means no used blade container.
I got these as part of a sample pack and as such I wasn't expecting too much.

They turned out to be quite a good blade.
I got three good smooth shaves out of them and might have squeezed a fourth but by the end of the third the blade was getting rough and scratchy.

Not a bad blade but if you haven't got anywhere to put used blades the packaging may put you off.
Then again if you're into eco packaging this is the bomb as no plastics where harmed in the making of this box.
