Floris JF Soap

Pros: Scent, cushion, glide, luxurious lather.
Cons: High price point
I have the most recent formulation purchased in July 2013 from a new shop. The scent is simply outstanding as ought to be expected at this price point. The lather builds easily and provides all the qualities a straight razor user could seek. Even better for a DE, not that there is much room to go up. The packaging and bowl are top notch. I have compared it directly to a fresh shipment of MdC and put Floris JF ahead for performance, MdC for scent. Very close call. This is a soap any wet shaver should enjoy if they are seeking the upper end of performance.

This product is wonderful. The wooden bowl is very handsome too. The lathering process is tricky at first but if you experiment with water/soap ratios then you'll be ok.

It is a pricey soap but its very exclusive and is of a very high quality. Very moisturising too!

Ryan.

Gents,
this soap has been reformulated, the review above is for the old formulation.

I think that using Floris soap and after shave you are on top.
Great quality and smell but quite expensive for daily use.:001_smile
This is one of the soaps that wetshavers must have in their shave kits. I am not sure how much longer Vintage Blades will have any in stock, but buy it up while you can!

PRICE: decent since I caught it on sale. It is triple milled, so you get what you pays for.

QUALITY: Would have given it a 9, but thee wooden bowl does not leave much room to work the soap w/o getting lather all over the bathroom.

SCENT: I could smell like this all day-everyday!

LATHER: It's triple milled-and as all soaps of this type, the lather is bountiful and lubricious.

EFFICACY: BBS shaves are the result consistently with this soap.

MOISTURIZING: Superb! Faceturbation before putting on a/s or a balm.

If you do not have any triple milled soaps(or the scent of Tabac or MWF leaves something to be desired), then you cannot go wrong with this one. In fact, methinks I'll head back over to vintageblades right now.....

Price: 8. Got it in the wooden bowl onsale through VintagebladesLLc. 27 bucks if I recall. Not too bd considering the original price in the 40 dollar range. Plus it came with a really nice looking wooden bowl. Of coarse I still find it hard to pay so much for a soap.

Quality: 10, I could find no fault in the quality of this soap, beautiful craftsmanship, spare no detail. The packaging was very nice and well thoughtout.

Scent: 6 , let me explain... The scent is great, but it goes away as soon as I make any lather. I do not smell the scent at all while shaving, only from the bowl when I first open it up. I find this alittle disapoointing, because the JF scent is so nice.

Lather: 10, this soap lathers really well and very easily. No problems here.

Efficacy: 9 , A great performer, but I seem to find my Truefitt and Hill soap performs just as well overall, so I cannot give it a 10, it needs to out perform TH or Tabac, it is close but doesn't quite impress me. It could use alittle more glide on my face.

Moisturizing: 8 , This soap doesn't dry my skin out persay, but it really doesn't leave my skin feeling as soft as some of the other soaps I have that cost alittle less.

Overall this is a great soap, however I find the standard price from Floris to be way too much for it. The packaging is top notch as is the quality of the wooden bowl. The refill prices are more in line but still a hefty price tag. I think when this bowl is empty I will probably refill it with another manufactor's product. Not bad at all, but I expected alittle more from this soap. I really am dissapinted that the scent goes away as soon as lather is made. Maybe others don't have this problem with theirs.

I've tried many soaps and I stopped looking when I found Floris.

Price is relative to quality. Don't expect the best to be cheap. You get what you pay for and Floris is as good as it gets.

But don't tell everybody or the price might go up.

I can't say that I have tried too many soaps and creams, because when I found this one, I stopped searching.

For me, the soap makes the biggest difference of all the tools when DE shaving. The razor and blade come somewhere after that and the brush is kind of irrelevant (even if I hate it when it looses hair and I have to pick them from the foam). This may of course mean that I have never stumbled upon a really bad blade brand.

Some other soaps I have tried include Palmolive and the highly rated Tabac soap, together with some cheap supermarket soaps. All of them have made the razor kind of jump and stumble over the skin with pain and irritation as result. Not this one. A nice lather kind of jumps out of the soap onto the brush and the razor effortlessly glides through it.

Hard to tell about the moisturizing effect of the soap, since I always use Floris JF aftershave balm afterwards, but the combined effect is great! My skin feels like a baby butt every day.

The scent is very nice too, even if it is of course totally individual.

Yeah, it may be expensive, but for me it doesn't matter when it feels this good. It lasts for quite some time, so cost per shave is fully acceptable.

Incredible scent, much better than the EdT.
The most beautiful wooden bowl out there (apart from Acca Kappa).
Very good lather.
The weapon of choice for me.

One of my favorite soaps. The only downside is the price. Floris does have sales at least twice a year. That's the time to stock up.

This is a great soap that doesn't get as much airplay as it should. Here it is from this morning's SOTD:
displayimage.php

This is a soap in the vein of Harris and T&H. Produces gorgeous, rich lather scented with the heavenly scent of JF.

Price
Yeah it is a bit pricey ($40 retail with the bowl), but pick it up at the occasional Floris sale and it isn't too bad.

Quality
Very high quality soap. It comes in my favorite of the wooden bowls out there. Nicer than T&H and Harris, IMO. It is a rich, burnished, dark wood. The soap itself never fails to please in scent or shave.

Scent
JF is a neroli-based scent with a base of Amber. Very elegant. Floris really hit the nail on the head with the amount of fragrance as well. Never overpowering, but allows you to be immersed in the glorious scent.

Lather
One of the best out there. Whips up like a dream, and is super-shiny and slick. Here is another picture from last year. Plenty of lather, eh?

Efficacy
First-class shave. Very nice and slippery, and allows one to get very close without irritation.

Moisturizing
Pretty good for a soap. Leaves your face feeling soft and healthy

Pick up some of this if you haven't tried it!
