D.R. Harris Lavender

After being shied away from T&H by being informed the shaving cream consistency is the same as Trumper's (thin and quite light), I did not want to risk shaving with another cream except Taylor's all the way because of its thick consistency until now.

Firstly I used the D.R. Harris shaving soap which was wonderful stuff, then I tried this cream hoping it would be just as thick out of the tub as Taylor's - and it was, hugely. This lavender cream in particular also has the most profound perfect lavender scent grown in England, and it stays this way even when fully lathered up on your face in, which, of course it does beautifully.

Overall a very clean shave indeed and good overall moisturising properties. As a user of Taylor's, I will always be using D.R. Harris now all the time and no doubt their full men’s grooming range. I strongly suggest people to visit their shop at 29 St. James's Street, London, it is a real treat to visit. My conclusion is a very high-grade shaving cream, I will purchase all other three creams on a special occasion such as visiting their wonderful shop again.

D R Harris and Taylor’s are the finest shaves about at the moment.
Very pleasant smell and nice leathering and goes a long way so pretty good value always meant to try other scents but as yet have not got round to it.

My Lavender experimentation ended with this gem. Worth every penny, it's the only lavender cream I have left in the cabinet. I did not really care for the deep coloring until I received a lavender shave stick, which is clear. Now I find that the color adds something intangible to the experience. I wish Harris made a rose cream scented similar to the Pink A/S. Until (if ever) they introduce a rose cream their lavender will remain my floral standard bearer.

Price: All high-end English creams are expensive. This one is worth the dough.

Quality: Most high-end English creams are of excellent quality. This one is among the very best.

Scent: If you like lavender it is fantastic.

Latherability: It is very dense out of the tub. Probably twice as dense as T&H. That makes it a little tougher to lather as you need to work the brush to make sure no stray bits of cream remain at the bottom of the bowl/scuttle.

Efficacy: Excellent. One of only a few creams that have enough cushion to carry a Feather blade on my face. Most require me to drop down to something a little milder.

Moisturizing Properties: I don't quite understand this one as all shaving products dry me out to some degree. I've never used a single shaving cream that left me more moist then when I began. Perhaps it's just my skin. At any rate, Harris dries me out about the same as most English creams.

Packaging: Standard

I agree with a couple of the other reviewers who feel that the deep purple color is unnecessary. It forces me to put away my white tip brushes for fear that this cream will stain the bristles. That's a shame because a cream this fine deserves a fine brush.

This is the most I have ever payed for a tub of shaving cream but I think it was worth it. Lathers very nicely and smells good. Ya the coloring is a little weird but who cares.

I don't mind the intensely deep coloring of this cream. That is, until I use the AOS lavender (a terrific product, as well) and realize that the color isn't necessary at all.

That would be the only complaint I have, and it's a minor one. Everything else about this cream is close to perfection. Smells great, and delivers the expected rich, unctuous lather that is the Harris signature.

Pricewise, it's really not all that bad. Sure, it's double the price of the very good Taylor, but it is so rich and dense that very little is needed.

If I could only have one lavender, this would be it.

My favorite lavender cream. Awesome scent, better shave My only gripe is that they could ease up on the purple coloring a bit.

Price: More than Trumper's, less than Castle Forbes. Works for me, especially since my tub is far denser than Trumper's and goes a long, long way. I only ever need half as much.

Quality: Top-notch. This is upper-upper English, deservedly priced above the three Ts in my opinion.

Scent: Pure lavender. Not having tried Castle Forbes I can't say it's the best on the market, but it's fantastic, and this is from a guy that doesn't particularly like floral scents to start with. It's neither powdery nor feminine; it just smells like gardens. Definitely a Spring or early Summer scent.

Latherability: Straightforward. Not as rich as Coate's, but a step above T&H or Trumper's. Favourably comparable to Taylor's.

Efficacy: One of the best creams out there, period. There's no "slick" scum like a soap tends to produce, and there's no massive cushion like Trumper's Coconut. This cream doesn't have a distinctive feature, other than that it produces consistent BBS shaves with ease.

Moisturizing Properties: Quite good. While not exactly hydrating, the cream doesn't dry your face out either. A pleasant splash is all that's necessary afterwards.

Packaging: Meh. It's a tub.
