Straight Razors

Beauty.... thy name is Dovo.... Bob sent me this razor to hone up for him, and I've had a few dovo's in my day, and well... they usually don't do too much for me unless they have a stainless blade... however this is really one of the most masculine, beautifully simplistic razors I have ever had the great pleasure of experiencing. Not only does this beauty look stunning (even more so in person), but it is simply a marvelous shaver...
Cool Spacer.... HUGE, THICK spin, simply DWARF'S the 5/8 DD Wonderedge next to it Ok, as you may have noticed.... this ain't grandpa's friodur. These incredibly interesting, neat, and beautiful scales are handmade by one of the most talented fellas currently making razor scales. These pics are a horrible embarrassment, but rest assured, these are probably my favorite after market scales, and not just due to the cool look - but more so the design. The size, weight, balance, perfect...
The mighty 5/8 Wonderedge, in all of its new old stock glory.... :001_tt1: :001_tt1: :001_tt1: OK, OK - down to business... The Dubl Duck Wonderedge, probably the most legendary razor in the straight razor world for being just an all around kick *** and take names razor. So... what's the story myth or mystique? Well - first lets delve into how this great razor became a "legend." Lynn Abraham's, founder of SRP was recommended the razor, gave...
This Wade and Butcher razor was already an old-fashioned design when it was made in the early 1800's. The blade on this razor has a similar shape as the triangular shankless razors of the revolutionary war era - though this razor does have a shank it's little more than a spot where the edge has been ground off. The toe is nearly an inch in width, the heel is about 6/8 of an inch. This is not due to hone wear, the razor is actually ground with a taper towards the tail. The razor...
I bought this razor because 1) I wanted a nice Thiers issard 2) I wanted a 7/8 blade and had not had one before. Once I got the razor I got it out of the box and had a good look. It turned out that the gold on the blade was in VERY poor shape. To me that was a dissapointment because I liked the look of the blade on classicshaving. The gold wash was a very light yellow colour....not like gold at all. The scales to me look like some kind of imitation wood and I don't really like them...
Sigh... isn't she lovely? Phew.... these TI's are a chore to photograph they are so bloody shiny. Again, typical TI... gold work isn't the best, but hey.... usually when you buy a TI, you know you aren't going to be getting the best markings/gold inlays - still though, for a razor well over $200 - it's pretty agitating. Somehow the dummies managed to get a little gold at the tip of the razor - but again.... with TI - you kinda expect medeocre (at best)...
Ahhhh, she sure is pretty - no? Well, regardless of what name they are calling this model (sometimes it is framback, squareback, heavy, worked back, etc) it sure is one dreamy razor. Mirror polished, extra hollow ground singing blade doesn't just look great - this dog can run. While it has the usual **** poor signature TI etchings/gold wash, it is otherwise a wonderfully built razor, outstanding size, weight, manuverability, blade profile, this one's really a winner. The...
Dubl Duck.... Henckels..... Puma.... Theirs Issard.... Dovo.... Dorko.... What do all of these brands have in common? Well... they are all foreign.... they all shave very, very well.... they are all pretty.... and they are all expensive. Well... what do you do if you just want quality? Well... if you don't know much about razors - you pay big money for one of the aformentioned brands that get all the good press on forums for being flashy. Well - what about the good ole American Brands? They...
Alright.... I've been putting this off far too long as I have been pretty disgusted with this ***... I liken this to the "shedsheister" shaving brush. Wacker 6/8 - 1/4 hollow... for those of you with a short attention span, look at the pictures - then four words sum it up - "Don't buy a Wacker." For those of you with inquisitve minds - you might ask, why? Well... giddy up for a wild ride fellas. Ok - where to begin... First off i'll start with my biggest gripe, one I think is...
This razor is a thing of sheer beauty. It's custom, hand-made elephant ivroy scales (Made by Mike Tomson) look and feel amazing, and it's mirror polished blade is in perfect order. Although this is an incredibly smooth shaving razor - due to its pricey handle, I do not use it much. All in all, I am a fan of Henckels straights and find them to live up to their lofty reputation. :thumbup1:
Without question - hands down - my favorite straight razor. Yeah - you'll hear fellas preaching "choppers" - big honkin 1 inch SOB's you can barely move around your face, Thiers Issards - pain to sharpen and stain immediatly - etc etc.... but seldom do you hear just how great a stainless steel razor is. Stainless steel is much harder than carbon steel - thus it is more difficult to sharpen - HOWEVER, once properly honed it will stay sharper much longer. It is my experience however, that...
