Got this today, after much looking aroud for references on the internets for it.... very hard to find one, aside from amazon reviews. Well, having just finished using this after 3 days of stubble growth, I can honestly state that I am very pleased with it. It's quite a light little thing (just around the 30g mark - almost 20g less than my other shavette). However, this means that it is quite a manoeuvrable blade. Construction is not flashy, it's not going to turn heads with it's...

This is the same product as the Shavette sold in Europe as Bluebeard's Revenge. It is well made, holds the 1/2 DE blade tight. Very balanced, easy to control blade provided you have experience with a shavette.

Feather Artist Club DX Non Folding Japanese Style Disposable Blade Straight Razor Over many years of straight razor shaving I have found use for disposable blade straights, both as travel razors, and fill ins before I took up honing. With many western style folding straights in my collection I decided to venture out into a non folder. I did so with trepidation as I couldn't envision success given how I use my folding straights. I decided to try a Feather Artist Club DX. The review I...

Sometimes reading reviews and searching the net for razor images misleads one into passing over true gems. I had been at Menessentials, on Danforth, in Toronto looking for a new straight. Seth, the Directing Manager, told me about a Dovo Desert Ironwood he had. Having seen a negative review on B&B by Joel I didn't give the Ironwood consideration opting for a Bergischer Lowe instead. Since then, my enabling wife returned to Menessentials to look at another razor. She also checked out the...

Several months ago I decided to expand my accumulation of straights from five to fourteen, give or take. After much searching on the forums I thought four or five Wackers could find a place in my rotation. I set out to buy a blonde horn "Gadsden" 15/16 notch point for an initial evaluation of both a vendor and the Wacker product. I wanted the blade factory fresh. If it were not shave ready I would address the matter with my Shaptons. In due course I received a dark horn...

I have a modest collection of users acquired since the mid-late nineties. My original three razors are Dovos and recently after a negative foray with Wacker, mixed results with several TIs, and two very good experiences with Dovo, I purchased a Mammut. I did so with some reservation due to the generally negative view of Dovo on this board, and the Mammut review by Joel. The razor arrived sealed in the same well made black wood case used since release of this model. Nice for presentation or...

The strop itself is a work of art. Torolf is a true Master of the Leatherworking craft. Fit and finish were excellent. Just to look at it is a pleasure. All materials used are top grade from the leather to linen to the hardware and handle. I was asked which color handle I wanted and informed Torolf he could be creative. I was amazed with his choice. The Linen Component is second to none in my opinion. It is fast with a brisk feeling of abrasiveness, and the logo at the top end...

Here's the description from Imperial Shave's site: ___________________________________ Product Description These strops are of the finest quality, the hanger is cast in our own foundry from solid brass and nickel plated, then buffed to a lustrous finish. The strop is a full 3"wide x 30" long. No-one else offers this size. This width allows you to use straight strokes with no need for the X pattern stroke, although you can if you prefer; and the longer length will allow you to...

This $16 *** which I bought off ebay as a joke, and out of curiosity, just out shaved many of my razors that are worth ten times the price. *cough* Did it come in that condition? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo............................... It did not. The craftsmanship is a bit of a joke. The scales are flimsy plastic made to look like carbon fibre, they flex when you hold them. The pins are just a nail, peened on one side. Mine centred OK, but usually they don't. The...

As one who only uses quality Feather or Kai straights I just got both the folding and the nonfolding Feather SS straights. I had my first shave today with the folding model SS straight. All I can say is the shave was nothing less than phenomenal. Any Feather used with any Feather blade will be much sharper than a traditional straight, hence their reputation of being less forgiving. Its true, they are certainly one very sharp razor. The new SS, IMHO has it all over the other Feather...
I'd been in the market for a strop for quite a while. Truth is, we all are and it never ends. I had to treat myself to something and I chose the Legion Roo and Moo strop. I spoke with B&B member, Legion, several times before acquiring this strop, as well as looked at posts from other members here and other sites that had obtained the strop. Initially the design was to be just a Roo strop with Moo merely as a backing as the Roo leather is quite thin. However, testing found that the...
Quality/Workmanship/Design/F&F: The workmanship and quality of leather and hardware on the Ambrose Ebano strop are top notch. I find it to be a 'no frills' strop, but that belies its simple, clean elegance which I find appealing. The dark color of the leather (think Espresso roast) has a striking appearance. There is a tasteful, but discrete stamp with the maker's logo at the barber's end. This is a good-looking strop. Feedback/Draw/Speed/Efficacy: The strop has a smooth and...
Aesthetics: Both strops are 23" long. They have 17" of strop space, 15" if not going over the logo. The secondary strop is made out of a weaved fabric. It is very tightly woven. No loose threads or anything. The red Latigo strop is a great quality leather, enough said. The D-ring handles are quite big. It gives me a great grip to make the strop nice and taught. This is truly one great looking strop. Functionality Both strops perform very well. The weaved fabric does a great job...
Some of you may remember that I had a post awhile ago wondering about the Frankonian hone available from Olivia Seife's website: http://www.olivia-seife.de/shop/hwherren/steine.html I was intrigued that you could buy a finisher there (Frankonian) that was described to be used after an escher. I debated on this hone for some time and after selling off some of my other HAD stones I had some money burning a hole in my pocket that just HAD to be used on an Oozuku from Maxim and the...
First let me start off buy saying that I am not a veteran of straight razor shaving. I'm relatively new with straights, but was shaving with a DE for 6 years prior. I have a Tony Miller 2.5" Red Latigo, an SRD modular paddle, and Larry's poor man's strop. Fit & Finish- I don't know what else can be said about the fit and finish on this strop that isn't in the photos. This strop feels like a piece of velvet when you run your hand over it. What I really like is the design at the end of...

A few years back I wrote an article reviewing the then new Silver Wing razor blank forgings using the CarbonSong 135 steel from Thiers-Issard. Well, evidently the factory was very pleased with that little write-up, and I was very happy :w00t: to learn that they wanted me to review yet another new straight razor that they have had in the works. What I’ve been sent to look at and try out is the new 11/16” Grelot Crown Silver Wing. I’m absolutely delighted with this little beauty for a...
I got this giant fairly recently from a friend and couldn't wait to test it out. I've played around with it and have been really enjoying it. It came to me NOS, but it was pretty sharp and only needed some work on a Japanese natural with slurry to get to shave readiness. It's a bit of a rare and strange blade for a few reasons: -it's a GIANT Heljestrand. You don't see too many of these. -it's a round point, which is again not the norm with the MK Heljes -it's stamped MK 134 instead...
I recently contacted Jose of Ambroseshave.com and asked him if it would be possible or even practical to use a piece of his new leather for a paddle strop. Jose immediately replied back that since it had never been tried for use on a paddle strop he would send me a piece to test and see how it worked. Within just a few days I received 2 pieces of his new leather cut to the size I had given him. When I checked the pieces for size against my paddle it was perfect so I give this a 10 for...
