Safety Razors (Reviews)

I recently recieved this razor and have been giving it quite a workout. In case you can't tell, I'm very impressed with this razor. I know that some say Parker TTO's are not so hot but the 3 piece 89r is fantastic! The quality is, to me, superb. The finish is smooth, shiny as a new nickel, and generally top notch. The shave has been marvelous. I've been using a Crystal blade in it and have gotten as good, if not better shaves, than with any other razor I've used to date. It just glides...
I received a LORD 'Click' Razor as a freebie in a shipment from Tryphon. Now, at first, i decided to give this product a truly 'fair shake' using my regular shave routine. Then i thought to myself "Self, Where would this razor actually see use with someone from B&B? Realistically?" The kind of situation i came up with is: "Oh, crap, my good travel razor (kit?) was (forgotten at home, lost in baggage, etc) good thing i packed a backup!" Not an entirely unrealistic situation, and...

I bought this for almost nothing just to try it out but it cleaned up so beautifully that I'll keep it. I've been a wet shaver all my life but until a few months ago used gillette twin blade disposables. Lately I've favoured the Slim and the 1948/50 Superspeed and didn't get on so well with the Fat Boy (too fat, that boy!). My expectations with the Slim Twist were not enormous, but it astonished me by delivering a spectacularly smooth, easy and close shave. I was using it with my...

I started DE shaving with a Gillette adjustable Slim. I found that I got my smoothest most irritation free shaves with the Slim dialed up as high as it would go. Knowing the red tips reputation for a fairly aggressive shave, I figured I'd give it a try and bought my first one from a fellow B&B member. It was fantastic. I liked the balance and heft of the red tip better than either a Slim or Fatboy and I loved the BBS shaves I was getting with it. It is much simpler than the adjustables...

I am surprised that there is no review on the EJ razors here. vThis is an EJ Chatsworth with a Merkur HD head. I can only compare it to other Merkur fixed heads, MP comb and the Futur. After using this razor this has become the only razor I use other than my all chrome EJ in Barley which is a heavier version of this but is a little harder to maneuver. This is a 3 piece razor This razor has been giving me the best shaves ever. I have tried it with feathers, Israeli Reds, Derby and swedish...

I got this from the BST for $95- you can decide if that was a good price or not. In the Vtge market there's always tension between buyers & sellers trying to get the best deal for themselves and I've known some guitarists looking for/buying vintage instruments to switch their position 180 degrees when they change their role, without batting an eye. I think the overall quality of the "real" Gillettes is well-known, though I'm sure there've been fluctuations over time which I'll learn about...

The Parker 71R is a fairly basic 3 piece razor. You can get it either from bestgroomingtools.com (where I got mine) or from classicshaving.com (they call it a Vintage Style Black Safety Razor). It is made in the far off land of India. Price I think the price for this razor is great. Less then $25 for a brand new one. I think its a good deal for 2 reasons. One, for someone who was just starting out a few months ago in the world of double-edge razors the price was right. I didn't really...

I've bought my Gillette Lady from eBay for about 25 euro's and have been shaving with it for three months now. I'm very pleased with this razor. My first razor was a Gillette Super Speed black tip and I really had to be carefull with that one because the blade sticks out more then with the Gillette Lady. So the agressiveness of the Lady is less then with the black tip. When starting shaving with the Gillette Lady, I hardly ever get cuts anymore and the shave is still very smooth. I use the...
I imagine this model does not differ much from a 1964 SS, which another member reviewed. This one is fantastic. I just picked this beauty up from ebay (about $20) and tried it out with a Derby Extra blade. Not much effort needed for an excellent shave. Very smooth and glided with no problems. It's shaving experiences like this that got me into wet shaving in the first place. I can't believe men stopped shaving with these! I look forward to trying a Tech, too. But it's hard to believe...

Every once in a while a rumor starts on this forum or one of the others that Gillette is going to start making DE razors again. It's not a rumor. Gillette still puts its brand on this DE, marketed outside the United States. The bad news is that this is a DE made by a 21st century Gillette that long ago abandoned quality durable products in favor of four dollar blade cartridges. It is a cheap plastic mockery of the classic double edge razor. This Click! was purchased in Makati City...

The Ranger Tech (without endcaps and datecode) was only made for one year, and as such is fairly rare. However, it is worth owning one just for that name "Ranger Tech". How cool does that sound? Anyway, on to the razor itself: Price: These can be quite pricey depending on where you get them. I got mine from a forum member for a pretty good price (I think $35). Don't go for the $80 eBay ones, unless you are collecting its just too much. Quality: This razor is over 60 years old, and...
The Wilkinson Sword Pronto disposable razor is one of the best buys in disposable razor land. Like any other disposable razor it does not offer any weight, the pole is too short and it doesn't provide any grip. What sets this razor apart from the rest however is the blade. Wilkinson Sword actually equiped these razors with a good quality blade, it's sharp but also very forgiving. In my opinion the blade is comparable to a Derby DE blade. Unless you press this razor against your face, it's...

Price = relatively cheap Quality = Ok Aggressiveness = Not very. A bit more aggressive than a Gillette Tech. Grip, User Friendly, Ease of Blade Replacement = Good: The 1904 is nice to look thanks to its ornamental handle. Bad: Unfortunately the metal they chose for the handle is too light. The ornamentation is too smooth thanks to the polished chrome finish, its on the slippery side of things. The handle also has a big round knob at the end which you want to grab on to to change...

This is the best razor for anyone who has sensitive skin. It protects you from cuts and nicks and gives you a great shave. The blade lasts at least 10 days. Any other blade simply cuts up my skin and I bleed profusely. Not so with Schick Protector blades. The 10 little wires that cover the blades provide just the right protection while allowing you to get a great shave. Unfortunately, they do not make this razor and the blades any longer but you can still get them from 1 or 2 places on the Web.

I was looking for a supply of Derby blades here in the UK, and between B&B and Ebay, decided to try the user derbyuk on Ebay. I was just about to by a bunch of blades, when I noticed he was selling an inexpensive razor + 15 blades for £7.49 (+£3 p&p), so I decided to buy it and try it. The first thing I noticed is that it comes in a fairly sturdy box - it certainly seems rigid enough to take on my travels. The 'only' problem with the box is that there are some moudlings inside which...
I received this razor for free but it is moderately priced anyway. First Impression: The razor comes in a plastic case with two Dorco ST300 blades. While the case is a nice touch, the cover pops off very easily, allowing your razor and blades to fall right out during travel. The case is not worth it. Once I remove the razor from the case, the first thing I notice is the unbalanced weight. Due to the style of the razor, most of the weight lies in the razor's head. Normally, this...

Price = The Schick Double Edged Razor (later marketed as the 'Krona') was continually produced for nearly two decades from the 60's to the 70's. Later models had the word 'Krona' stamped on the head, earlier ones did not. Same razor. There are a lot of them out there. Because of numbers and lack of collector demand, they can be still be purchased quite cheaply on ebay. I picked up mine still in its original packaging for $5. Quality= The Krona is well made razor. Even after 40 years...

This review is a bit overdue and the razor used for it could IMHO be called the prototype for Merkur's new 39C barber pole slant bar razor. The explanation for that can be found here . I say the review is overdue because although the 39C has only been available for sale here in the USA for a couple of days I have been shaving with this prototype since I received it in July of '07. I didn't review it in the interim since it wasn't clear that it would be a production item and I didn't...

Although I'm relatively new to the new to the world of DE shaving, it's not difficult to tell the difference between a good shave and a great shave, especially when price is involved. And if you're looking for a razor that performs well and has looks to boot, then Gem G Bar is worth the few dollars you'll spend on one in fantastic condition, compared to the curiously high prices some vintage razors have been demanding lately, such as The Gillette Fat Boy. You'll need some slick looking...
To start with, I should admit that this is the first DE razor I've shaved with so take my review with a grain of salt. Fit and finish was much better then I expected, rattled a little open but it didn't make a sound when it was closed. Seems to be a very forgiving razor, I discovered a few small cuts after my shave but nothing deep. I would say it's a great razor for a noob (me) :blushing: All in all, I'd say this razor is a good value, easy to use, and it gave me a very nice...
