When shopping for a shaving mug to replace my old Wal-Mart coffee mug, I decided I wanted to try the apothecary style of shaving mug because it looked functional, cool, and, well, not like an afterthought. The apothecary mug looked like a purposeful tool, rather than something that just accidentally found itself in my bathroom during a delirius Sunday morning hangover. On the KnifeCenter.com website (http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=cc019) I found this one. It was...

Alright, so we got this shave system for my oldest son, Chris Jr. (he's 4), for Christmas. The price was excellent compared to most shaving sets at $11.00! What a deal! Quality was okay. The brush held a good amount of water and was very soft but, I had a little trouble working up a lather for him. This has got to be the best razor in the world even if it looks like a cartridge! IT NEVER NEEDS SHARPENING! And my son gets a BBS with it, every time! The mirror is a bit on the small...

Up until recently I simply rolled up my shaving brush in a washcloth and dropped it into my dopp kit when travelling. I know, that is pretty lame. There are a ton of posts on B&B by do-it-yourselfers about getting a large pill container from your local drug store (by asking for a freebie) and drilling holes in it to use as a travel tube for your brush. There are a bunch of other inventive ideas folks have shared for travel brush containers. I scoured my house for suitable & inventive...

Although the VDH boar brush and deluxe soap have been reviewed elsewhere in the review section, I decided to review the VDH starter kit as a whole because I believe it is an excellent choice for a beginner. I picked up this kit at the local Walmart for under $8. All I need to add was a razor, blades, and a mug to work the lather in. I found the boar brush to be very well made for the price. While some have mentioned an odor problem with the new brush, particularly when wet, mine was...
For your consideration, the Dovo leather shaving gear travel case. The photo includes several items that do not come with the case. There is an optional strop, but more about that later. In case you were wondering why Packaging was so high, it came in a really nice box. But, the box only got it to my hands. Afterward, it was judged on its own merits. I've had and used this case for several months. Right now, it is no longer a travel case; it is a daily case. Description: The...

I purchased this large scuttle from the potter through E-bay, It arrived well packaged about one week from purchase date. The scuttle is 6 inches across by 5 inches tall. The handle is large enough for two finger use. The lather bowl is a nice 5 1/2 inch wide by 4 inch deep ribbed bowl. On the first use, I filled the resevior with boiling water from an electric kettle, the odd pinging noises concerned me so I stood back and waited until they stopped. Upon inspection the glaze had hairline...
Just tried a new shaving cut aid, Nick Stick by Pacific Shaving. It is quite unique in that its a small roll-on (size of a large chap stick tube. Claims on the package that it is self sanitizing. It stings a bit and dries clear, large improvement over the white look of an alum stick. Only downsize I found is it is not a fast at stopping a bleed as a pencil. All in all I will continue to stay with it and report back.
In my quest for a decent scuttle, any pottery-based contraption was not an option: For some reason, all my previous pottery-based shaving mugs and bowls were smashed to pieces. Hence, decided to get an old Victorian scutter made by Vulfix. [Thought: They make decent brushes, so they must know a thing or two about shaving.] The product is marvelous. I pour boiling water in it and let it sit while I am whipping lather in a separate bowl. Then I just put my brush, full of leather, on top...
This was my very first Pre Shave Oil recommended to me by a friend. I applied this product before the cream. The bottle comes with a pump and two pumps will give about a dime size of oil that easily spreads to cover the face. The oil does tend to give me a numbing sensation, some will like it, some will not. What I dont like is you do need to use some kind of cleanser after shaving to remove the bulk of this oil off your face and soap for remoiving off the hands. It does create an...
I have a small violet pot ($10 at most ) that I use as my scuttle that works fabulously. I fill a large 2 cup Pyrex cup with RO water and put it in the microwave. I use the beverage setting to get the water just hot enough. I then fill the outside part of my violet pot to the line I’ve drawn, put the inside part in and put in the remaining water. I soak my brush for a while in this hot water and then put my microfiber face cloth into this same hot water using my brush to make sure it is...
First off i looked for a review on this product but found nothing, I pray this isn't a repost. So I was strolling with the gf around bay & bloor (major shopping district in Toronto) and wandered into the body shop to see what they had for shaving products. I saw this bottle of pre-shave oil and though "hey for $8 dollars (9 points) how can i go wrong?" Considering the price of my AOS pre-shave oil, this seemed like a bargain! So i returned home content with my purchase and after a days...

Hands down the best shave oil I have found for your dollar. I am basing the rating numbers that 5 is average, that said this is an above average oil for a below average price. 2 oz. of this good quality shave oil is only $23, and with a great oil like T&H at $18 per ounce this is a no brainer buy. It is a thin and yet slick oil that does not weigh on your face like motor oil. If you like a thick oil then this is not the product for you. Yes I agree there are better quality oils out...
So what's the next thing you need after your razors, brush, soap and cream? Something to display your collection with. Ok some of the "commercially available" ones out there are nice, but they come at a price and they only ever hold 1 razor. And what better way to get a stand than to support a fellow B&B member ?? These stands are customisable by Shane depending on your needs. Things you can specify: No of brushes No of DE razors No of Straight razors ( and any combintation...

I know a review of Simple Green may not be of interest to the guys in the US since it is readily available over there, if this is the case stop reading now. However in the UK there is only a single distributor for this product and it is not quite as cheap as it is in the US. I had wanted to try it for another purpose so made contact with the distributor and ordered some. The UK distributors are very nice people, Gilly gave me a nice e-mail response with plenty of info and Paul whom I...
This was my find of the week. I've been searching some of the department stores looking for a new bowl that would work with my larger brushes. I found this in my local Target in the dinner ware section. I've used the bowl for a week now and it works just fine. Price. $3.99 is pretty hard to beat. I bought two. I couldn't force myself to spend $40 for the hand made bowls. Quality. Made in China but it looks well made to me. No flaws. Performance. Size matters. It has a 4 inch...
I'm a pretty indecisive guy. When I travel, I have a hard time deciding what shaving gear to take with me. To me, the thought of using just one(or even two!) creams, soaps or razors for a week or so is a bit frightening! Unfortunately, with a lot of toiletry bags you're just not going to have the room to carry much more than that. Well, with this bag, that issue has been eliminated!! Price: I picked this up at Walmart for $9.98 I think. At that price, I really feel it can't be beaten...
Details: Merkur Classic with Merkur DE blade, Col Conk Almond, Merkur Pure Badger brush. Bought this at Rite-Aid for $5.99. Took one squirt and rubbed it in and went at my usual 2 step I have been alternating between Secret Shave and AOS Oil and King of Shaves and this one seemed the most effective without any oiliness. No razor clogging. No burn, redness any very very close shave. Recommended. By the way, I tried to Google it but only one hit from a store in the UK.
I purchased this clay shaving bowl directly from Muhle in Germany as part of a package so the price was lower then stated in their online catalog. This bowl is hand fired and the company that makes it for them has been in business several hundred years. The performance is outstanding as I mixed up soap to a quick warm lather with ease. The bowl is nice and light weight. So far all their products I have bought are outstanding and not expensive when you consider quality.
I just received my Col. Conk Shaving Mug today. I couldn't wait to try it out, and here are my thoughts: Price: It cost me $26 Cdn, which I'd say is a fair price price for this specialty mug. Quality/durability: The ceramic mug is a little on the thin side, so I'm a slightly concerned about it's long term durability. If you drop it, it's going to break. Like any piece of pottery, it's not exactly symmetrical, but the lines are clean and I doubt anybody would have any complaints...
