I was really looking forward to liking Pinaud Lilac Vegetal. Every spring I look forward to the blooming of the lilac bushes in my yard. I love to smell them in the early mornings after a run. I also like the smell of vegetation, be it the smell of my hands after weeding the garden, the smell of fresh mowed lawn, even the smell of decaying vegetation in a compost pile, wafted discretely on the wind, has a certain attraction. Ed Pinaud had a genius with scents, creating some masterpieces...
So, I had an irritating close shave this morning (bad prep, lack of sleep, rush, etc...)...which is a good thing to test an A/S : how good is it at soothing?? So, I tried the Brut Balm Soothing : this stuff really soothes!!!! it's slightly refreshing (not like a mentholated product, more in a soothing way) ; I was afraid this would irritate me after my bad shave, especially when you consider the Brut fragrance, but to my surprise, it didn't Absorption and moisturizing properties ...

This classic AS made in Stuttgart, Germany since many decades contains all sorts of natural ingredients to take care of a wetshavers face: fermentation alcohol (no napalm-like burn here), orange blossom water, citrus oils, lavender, menthol, camphor, alum (who needs the block?), liquid wax and, of course, the famous valeriana celtica (speick-plant) extract. The scent is pure heaven IMO: a combination of orange blossom, lavender and herbaceous and woodsy notes. Lingers for two hours. Same...
Price: $9 for 2oz "squeeze" bottle, $22.50 for 6oz pump. Maybe a little on the steep side. Quality: This seems like a very high quality aftershave made with a balanced focus betweeb the lotion and the scent qualities. The packaging is nice -- I'm certainly partial to the classy look of black old-timey looking labels. Not so sure about the 2oz bottle though -- I'm worried that it will be difficult to get the last bits out, as this balm is too thick to pour. Fighting Razor Burn: Average. Not...
Corn Husker’s Lotion (CHL) has been a standard on American drugstore shelves for decades. You can go down to your local drugstore today and pick up a 7 oz bottle for under $4. The label says it is a “Heavy Duty Hand Treatment,” and indeed it is, as vouched for by generations of hardworking outdoors people. However, it is also an effective aftershave balm. I use this after I shave and splash with witch hazel. I put just a tiny dab of CHL on my finger, dab it to each cheek and my neck, and...
This is one of my favorite aftershave balms at the moment. It's cheap sweet, and wonderfull in feel. The scent is lavender combined with a scent I don't really know. The scent is wonderfull but light so it doesn't clash with any cologne's. If you'd like to try something new and don't have much cash to spend...get this stuff. If you're simply looking for something good.....don't waste your money on something more expensive with less quality. They have a matching shave soap as well and...
With the profusion of Shea butter shave soaps available today I do not need the level of moisturizing that I once did. These soaps have much more lubrication as well so my skin is in better shape after my shave. I see a dermatologist on a regular basis (To much sun as a kid) and I always snag samples of products from her, some of these are light moisturizers with SPF sunscreen in them, one is called Purpose- a Johnson and Johnson product. I have been using it for a while with very good...
Although initially skeptical, this has turned into one of my favorite after shave toners. It smells intensely of cucumbers, and is one of the most soothing products I have found when a bit of irritation sets in. I keep reaching for it whenever I have a sub-par shave. The ingredients are: Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Rosa Damascena Hydrosol, Cucumber Distillate, Witch Hazel, Glycerin and Black Willow Bark Extract. It is not moisturizing enough on its own in general, so you will need something...
Emily and the folks at Em's place make some great aftershave products. I am particularly enamoured of her aftershave splashes, but that is another story. The aftershave soother and light moisture balm is a great product. The balm is a fairly loose consistency, and provides just the right amount of moisturizing properties. There are a variety of EO scents avaiolable depending on your mood. In this case, I am reviewing the "skindicinal" blend, which has goodies like tea tree oil, witch...
Now this is some interesting stuff. Last Christmas I got a Billy Jealousy gift set from my Aunt which included Body Wash, Face Wash, Shavecream (brushless), some bizarro product called Hot Towel, and this ASB. I looked up the price and at $25, this product is way too expensive for me to recommend, but at the same time, it's unlike any A/S product I've tried (and I've tried a ton). The website lists the ingredients like this... ACRYLATE CROSS POLYMER: Evaporating agent. Quickly...
Price: 4oz. for $8.35 doesn't make it cheap, but it's not terribly expensive either. There are easily worse products out there that cost a lot more Quality: I love this stuff. It feels so good on the face. The witch-hazel and rosemary hydrosol tones, the menthol cools and tingles, just fantastic. Here is the list of the ingredients. Rosemary Hydrosol, Witch Hazel distillate (from Hamamelis virginana), Glycerin, Jojoba, Vit. E., Rosemary Extract, Black Willow Bark Extract...

I have very high regard for this stuff. It smells exactly like the heirloom roses in my backyard garden, and spraying a bit of this on absolutely brings me back there. This is not a sweet chemical smell or a perfumed odor, it is 100% roses. My wife dislikes this scent on me, which is too bad because I'd love to use it every day. After an especially bad shave, a few sprays of this on my face removes razor burn almost immediately, and replaces the burn with a fresh-from-the-rose-garden...
(Image Credit to www.amazon.com) I picked up this product as a means to help with Razor Burn after the fact, and in this respect, the product works very well. I ordered this from MensEssentials, and their price was competitive with other websites. Now the Pros of the product- This product is very good after the fact at helping alleviate ingrown hairs and razor burn, and I believe it works similar to Solution 2, and Tend Skin. I normally use it after shaving, before putting on my...

I just pulled this along with the Pinaud Clubman Talc out of the depths of my bathroom cabinet. Its been there for a good 6 years while I have been searching for a great barber salon nostalgic scent. Taking a whiff of this straight away it smells pretty good, but after you put it on, boy it just brings out the best in any shave. Although its alcohol based the sting is fairly minimal. I dont soak my face with the alcohol based products anyways and follow with a more hydrating product. It...
I don't have a really high opinion of this stuff. I bought it eager to try a pedigreed splash (rather than the balms I usually favor) expecting it to be wet and to smell strongly of sandalwood. I was wrong on both counts. First time I aplied it, I dabbed out a little in my palm, rubbed my hands together, then paused for 1.5 seconds to look over my shoulder. Lo and behold, when I slapped hand to face, boh were bone dry. Nothing there! I've tried mixing with water in my palm, that...

This is the one product my wife thanks me for wearing, and no matter how many other products I try to love, this is the only one that she will comment on. Oddly enough, it's not just my wife -- basenotes.com goes so far as to say that it's "a big hit with the ladies." The fragrance notes are: They also rated its endurance of the balm at 6 hours, which is about right (http://www.basenotes.net/articles/balmendurance.html). This is the balm I turn to (over AoS, Taylor of OBS, T&H, and...

I've been using these for a while, and although I ended up with all three of them, I use lavender almost exclusively (this is my third vial). I find lavender and sandalwood absolutely intoxicating, so much so that they have spoiiled other renditions of those scents for me. Their moisturizing capability is also unrivaled among all others I have tried so far. The only downside for me is the price ($38 for 122 ml), and the fact that, because it contains vitamin C, it tends to sting a bit...
This is without question the BEST Aftershave Balm I have ever used. And, I've tried many. Too many. The good news is, the quest for ultimate ASB is over for me. I typically go for alcohol based after shaves, but I received this from Tom (TomH - a stellar guy) and so I've been using it this past week. This product does contain alcohol, but it is a balm and acts like it and with flying colors. Well, I am very impressed to say the least. It has an incredible "care-giving" effect to the skin...

This balm is very good: a great dry scent which lasts many hours on me, good moisturizing properties and a very classy packaging (a rubberized heavy glass bottle). Excellent for layering with other sandalwood products, but also very good in combination with other scents (for instance: GFT's coconut oil or Bronnley's samphire shaving cream). I honestly can't think of anything negative to say. A bit pricey perhaps?
When I first bought Lucky Tiger I had become so comfortable with Thayer's I felt maybe this mild orange scented stuff wasn't going to work out. But I tried it again and very happy I did. The scent is a nice, mild orange citrus. Not overpowering like Thayer's rose and lavender, which I find can really stick with you throughout the day. After a few more days of use it seemed different or should I say my face felt better compared to using Thayer's. I hadn't really paid much attention to what...
