Beauty.... thy name is Dovo....
Bob sent me this razor to hone up for him, and I've had a few dovo's in my day, and well... they usually don't do too much for me unless they have a stainless blade... however this is really one of the most masculine, beautifully simplistic razors I have ever had the great pleasure of experiencing. Not only does this beauty look stunning (even more so in person), but it is simply a marvelous shaver, and as good as any TI 2X it's price.
Out of the box this sucker was dull as a spoon but I sent it on a trip down Norton way, and it keened up right quick. I had offered Bob several finishing options (japanese natural stone, new belgian, vintage belgian white, diamond paste, green chromide paste, shapton 30K, etc) but I didn't hear back from him - and decided to take matters into my own hands and went with the vintage Belgian white corticle to make it shave smooth as glass..... and low and behold it sure did. The hard swedish steel LOVED that Belgian white, and REALLY took just about the smoothest shaving edge I have ever experienced. I'd be mighty hard to give yourself ANY sort of irritation with the edge I put on this, and if this razor were mine (it pains me to send it back
) it'd probably become my daily shaver.... it's that silky smooth.
Side Bar: a neat little "fact" on these suckers - the "Dovo Solingen" inlay on the handle is actually genuine 925K sterling silver. (see below)
I'm not sure if this is a particularly "magical" one (as there often tends to be one pop up every so often from ANY brand, that is just really one HELL of a shaver) but I am sure going to give another dovo or two a go after experiencing this gem. For about $75, it's a hell of a lot of razor... for not too much coin, with about a 1/4 hollow blade, this is just a really sweet deal.
It isn't the flashiest razor... it isn't the most expensive..... but it's mighty, MIGHTY damn nice, and it's more than any man would ever NEED.
