What's with these?

Browsing that auction site and came across this pair of razors.

Blades look really nice, but what's with the spines?
Looks like brass tubing.

Anyone throw any light on it?

Not sure why they have a brass back.
Frame backs have the brass that supports the thin blade.
Faux frame backs are ground to look like an actual frame back.
These do not look like they need one so it makes no sense. This would make for a very obtuse angle.

Actually, looking at one of the other pictures it might not be brass.

The bottom one has either plating or coating rubbed off.
Doesn't look as though it fits right either.

Normally that would be flat blade and they would add that brass or steel tube to the top to create a spine....so basically a frameback concept in order to get the proper edge angle.

Without seeing the end its hard to tell but because the tang is beveled (like on the second razor) im going to guess that these may have been added to beautify the blades??? Ill see if i can find a picture to compare.....

It's just a sheffield style of frameback. It's no more obtuse than any other razor.. these aren't thick full wedges, they are flat ground, thin wedges with a spine jacketed on to impart the correct angle. Here is a tally ho brass fb head on.

Thanks for that info, really appreciate it.

If the price is in a sensible range, they are well worth a bid

Might hit it with lowball offer and see what happens.

Thanks again.

ive razors with spines like that, they are worth a try, as they do feel a bit different having just a thin but stiff blade. Heres one, a Rodgers:

and then the french go and decide to take it another step further...
