Escher/Thuringian love. show of your rocks

Everyone please be warned. Fraudulent labeled Eschers have just appeared for the first time I've ever seen from a UK eBay seller. Labels can no longer be trusted. So far they're pretty poorly done and fairly obvious fakes to good eyes, but I'm sure the quality will improve with time.

Nice score, Tim. I had one of those
3-4 years ago and really liked it. You are the king of the wild finds.

Speaking of that I believe I’ve seen these listed a couple times. They looked like essentially new stones with new, bright and un-tattered labels. The wording was slightly diffrent as well.

My suspicion is that the stones are genuine vintage Thuris but with photocopied labels. The labels are as you describe, very bright.

What makes you guys think they're repros? I have one stone that has an excellent label but it looks pretty well aged and yellowish. Pretty sure that one is legit only because I bought it from a guy who sold it for peanuts.

These labels were mostly white. I have seen 2 listings maybe 4-6 months ago. To me the labels just looked too new and pristine. They also had no box. How does a label stay that nice for presumably decades with no box protecting it? Also, the red boarders were slightly different as was the wording in the instructions.

Like Dcaddo said, it could very well be a perfectly fine thuri. Someone just wanted to up its value.

That makes some sense. The stone I've got was in a fitted box as well, but the label still yellowed. I guess there would have to be at least some stones with very white labels in order to photocopy one though.

I try my new catch - the wellow green side is almost worn , so i have to deal with the blur green only . Very nice size - a bit over 6x2 inch.

This was a real headache. Bought this escher in a lot with some other stones inclusing a barber hone. Anyway, open the box and under the stone is a remnant of the label on the corner. Kind of whacked they labelled a stone so rough on the bottom but I have seen a couple that way. Anyway, there was an old cloth under the hone and lifting that, there was the label... With the label from the inside of a barber hone literally affixed right over the front of the escher label. I must have sat there for 90 minutes with a dead se gem blade skimming that bhone label off as powder till I hit escher graphics. I can't believe it came out as well as it did..

I landed the unicorn. I’ve alwsys heard how good these are so I’m excited to test it out. It’s so soft it stuck to my DiaFlat. First two pics are as received and last pic is lapped and ready for some steel.
