What's new

A couple of BIG & BULKY Custom Handles

Thanks to deruitem/ Matt, I received my two Custom Handles Wednesday; a Red/White/Blue Swirl Milk Churn Style; 2 1/8" high, top is 5 1/2", middle 5 3/8" & the base is a whopping 5 7/8" in diameter, nice & heavy in my hand. I love the size, bulk & color pattern and set a TGN 24mm Black Badger @~48mm, the Black Badger really contrasts the predominately Red Handle nicely.

The second handle is a Bulb Type, Green & Black marble pattern with a smattering of Silver speckles; 2" high, neck 4 1/2" and base 5 7/8" in diameter, another heavy bulky Handle that feels great in my hand. I set a TGN 20mm Super Fan XD knot @ 46.5mm, the White Tips are very soft and contrast the Dark Colors very nicely. Here are a few pre-bloom photos, right now they are both sitting in an overnight lather so the Post Bloom photos will follow after drying.

I must say the Photos really don't convey the beauty of them as when viewed in "the Flesh", I think I may be selling a couple of Shavemacs soon.

Thank you both very much, I've always liked the Milk Churn and Bulb style shapes and wanted a couple to satisfy an itch for a couple more Brushes. I have 12 other Brushes, some almost as tall, but none as heavy or thick so I PMed deruitem with my ideas and he responded with several Blanks to choose from and those two caught my eye.

I'll be posting the photos with the initail bloom in the Morning once the knots have dried, the Super Fan looks like it will really spread. After loading and lathering the Fan, I was barely able to place it in a standard coffee mug without angling it in, it was ~4-41/2" across the top of the Tips.

Nice brushes Tom!!
I'm a fan of hefty brushes myself.
Use them in good health.
Did you happen to notice that VintageBlades is now showing an oversized XL Rooney Beehive Heritage?
Yummy
AND an imitation Jade handled Stubby XL2?
WOW :001_tt1:
Then I saw the prices  :scared:

Here is some brush porn of an oversized Rover that RudyV. made for me a few months back. I was there with him hashing through the process of what I wanted, and he was really cool to work with. It's funny, when we got done, I was doubting myself, worried that the brush would feel too unwieldy and large in my hand, but it has been a pleasure to use. I have it in rotation with a Rooney XL1 at this time, and I really think I prefer the Rover. It is shown next to a traditional Simpson Rover for perspective.

I have a Chubby 2 coming in the mail ((maybe TODAY!!! =)) So I'll be comparing the three of them. I am really interested in trying bigger knots. The RV Rover (DISCLAIMER- Rudy does NOT use the trademarked name "Rover"- I do.) is a 26mm knot with a 48mm loft. The Chubby is allegedly a 27mm knot, but I keep hearing that Simpsons are so unpredictable in their build that there can be quite a bit of variation. I'm just hoping it will be beefier than the two I'm using now.

Here are some Post Bloom photos, I remeasured the lofts, Black Badger @48mm & the Super @ 46.5mm with a bloom measuring 3 3/8" across the top of the loft. The Bloom of the Black Badger wasn't as severe but is noticeable.

The 20mm knot was removed from a Vie-Long Acrylic Handle and set @46mm, I use this strictly to face lather Soaps or Creams.
