I very easily converted my Merkur 11C into a Bulldog. Well not really but it sure looks like a Bulldog. I simply removed the knob by pulling it straight out. Similar to replacing the plastic knob on a Progress. Then I removed the split ring washer which is simple. The shave is not any different just having a little fun. I am planning on leaving it that way. I saved the split ring in case I want to convert it back.

I always thought Bull Dog referred to the Barber Pole Knurling on that particular long stemmed Old Type.
Gillette had other long stemmed Old Types but they weren't called Bull Dogs.
BTW. I remove the split rings too. they just scratch up the insides of the barrel.

I was just messing around seeing how the thing ticks. But water does drain through the handle easier since the knob has a lip.
Does everything fit back tight without the split ring, or is there a rattle?
I removed those springs on my 11c and 37c and there is no rattle (it's insignificant). I prefer my razor that way - easier to cleaning.
