Yes. The core is a cheap Chinese handle that was too small for my taste and was slippery, over which I mounted the cork I carved. The result is an ergonomic handle that has the best grip. I love it!

Does the shim effect the shave much?

Hey, thanks for asking! Yes, it can help in some razors to make it more aggressive like the Gillette Red Tip while in this Yaqi Slant the shim helps to make the blade a bit more rigid and thus reduce the blade chatter. Without the shim...I am just unable to go ATG with this slant especially on the chin and lips area. YMMV of course...
I put the shim at the bottom to make the red tip more efficient while I am trying on top for this slant. Next week will try it at the bottom. Cheers!
