Late to this thread as new to this forum :)

I used to play golf for a while almost every day !

never had a hole in one ? so close a couple times hahahah but NOPE never had that happen but oh well

NOW where did I play mostly !!! Hahahaha WELL !!!

my wife used to be the head Graphic designer for Kapalua (I am from Maui) so I used to be able to play all 3 Kapalua courses for free :)

I used to live on Lanai back in the 90s again use to be able to play both courses for free all I wanted

Experience at Koele is the most beautiful course to play on I feel
but bias as a former Lanai resident ;)

local course called Cavendish on Lanai though was what we played the most ! Sometimes after work ( I was the head dive instructor for Trilogy back then) we would grab a club and putter and did not care what that club was head out with our rubber slippers surf shorts a extra ball in pocket and just have fun IMHO those were the funnest times and often would do it almost every day even if just a few holes and then go fishing or hunting etc....

Been a busy month of golf! I am going to California in December to get custom fit for Callaway clubs and play in a tournament, so I figured I should get some tournament experience first. I entered a flighted gross score tournament and temps were in the 40’s with wind and rain. Not only did I win my flight, but I was actually the low gross and net for the entire tournament with an 82. First time I’ve ever had 3 birdies in a round. And today in similar weather, I had my best score ever with a 76 and once again 3 birdies. My already personal best 11.4 handicap is trending down!

Hopefully sometime soon I can post a score. I used to be a high single digit index and then took over twenty years off. So now my much less limber 72 year old body is ill suited to my Mizuno MP-29s. I think it's nothing time on the practice range and green, lots of stretching, and maybe even some newer technology wouldn't help address. I have walked a few nines. My distances have all changed, and my swing has gone from slight draw to much straighter but with a new tendency to pull shots. It used to be that full swing wedge shots were like throwing darts. Now I hit long irons better than wedges and short irons. Golf is hilarious, but it is still the best game.

Good going! Because of my back when I was playing my swing was very limited but I played for feel instead of extra distance so I used a set of Hogan forged clubs, cavity back though, and balata balls. Yes, balata. That long ago. I loved the feel both tools gave me. My best round was a 72 or 71 but it was on a short, tight par 70 private course. My memory fails me but I think I had gotten down to a 12 or 13 handicap.

I envy you your draw.

I envy you your draw.
I always wished my natural swing were a fade. The courses in Austin tend to be hilly. It's a lot easier to stick a fade than a draw on a downhill shot at the green! Many holes forced me to play long approaches as bump and run because the draw topspin would just carry the ball over the green and, with my luck, into a canyon. The extra run out on drives is nice, but when you're only carrying it 220 most of the time it really does not matter that much. I did buy a newer technology driver with an R shaft and some long tees. Those really help more than anything else.

A bad back is limiting my rounds again this year. Shot 42/42 first round out and 36/43 next time out. Both on par 72 tracks, so keeping close to my 10 handicap (haven't kept an official USGA handicap for years for a lack of rounds, but use a phone app).

My problem is not being able to stand up straight for days after playing. I blew my back out playing soccer 30 years ago and it is getting progressively worse as I age. I finally made an appointment with a back specialist, but can't get in until late September. There must be a lot of bad backs out there these days.

The last time I mentioned seeing a back specialist, my primary said this about back operations... 1/3 of the people get better, 1/3 see no difference and a 1/3 actually come out worse off. Those are not good stats. Even Tiger Woods who has the best doctors in the world has had 5 or so back surgeries to try and get it right. I am interested to see what a specialist says just for peace of mind. Until then, I can only play when my back allows (this upcoming Saturday, fingers crossed).

80, 85% of golfers have a fade to a slice. That's one reason most courses place trouble on the right side off the tee
My best friend of over 50 years has a natural draw. He could pick up his clubs after a month or so of not playing and post a 2 over. One of the best athletes I've ever known and by far the best hand/eye coordination I've ever seen. Seven confirmed holes in one. Just amazing

Never had a hole in one. Hit a sand wedge on a 105 yard hole with a canyon, spun it back into the canyon, and followed by backing up a soft gap wedge into the hole. But "almost" doesn't count. My hours at the range are focused on mentally playing specific holes, forcing myself to fade or draw whichever shot it needed. Your friend sounds as if he'd be fun to watch. Playing with better golfers makes me enjoy it more.

I just played round #48 Thursday, Dec.2, but, due to weather, it will probably be my last one until 2022....not bad for northern Ohio! I shot 79, which has been about my average score through the season. I managed to shoot my age or better 5 or 6 times
(I turned 76 this summer), so it's been a successful season. Now it's time to put the clubs away and wait until 2022. I envy any B & B guys from southern climates, b/c you're still playing...!!!

My last friendly match scorecard detail is here: Front nine total is 26 and back nine total is 31 and the scorecard total is 57.
That deserves a tip of the hat, a big silver cup and a large check and handshake photo op! You da gd man!
That link doesn't work for me but tell us the details!

Not a good day today on the course. Carded an 87 but we did enjoy more than a few sips of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Having some issues getting GIRs. Putting was very good today with 28 putts. Back out there on Wednesday in the Florida Sun!

Getting ready for Club Match Play that begins tomorrow. Played much better this morning with a 39 on the front and a 41 on the back for an 80. Nice and relaxing round with friends.

Fairways and Greens.
