I’ve been experimenting with different carts, just to see what I like most for head shaves. So far I still love the Leaf the best, but tonight I used:

Razor: The Defender
Brush: Chisel and Hound
Pre: Be Bald Scrub
Soap: A&E The Revolution
Aftershave: A&E The Revolution

9/10! I really enjoyed the Defender. It made quick work of my head shave. While it won’t replace my Leaf I think I’ll use it on nights when I don’t have a lot of time, or if I shave in the morning.

Soap: Palmolive Men Classic stick
Brush: Mühle Silvertip fibre M
Razor: Merkur 38C
Blade: Mühle (4rd shave)
Post: Melissa + alum
AS: Nivea Men - Sensitive - after shave balm

Excellent shave, first time I managed to shave my chin dimple (going XTG on that small part)

score: 9

Late morning shave today, after rubbing a hot flannel across my face for a few minutes - which isn't as good preparation as ten minutes in the shower, but didn't mess things up.

Vintage Heljestrand "No.24"4/8 French point straight razor
Zenith 506 black horse brush
Tcheon Fung Sing "Rasozero" "Barbacco" soap
Vintage (1980s) Yardley Black Label aftershave

A nice shave, and the Heljestrand introduces a bit of variety with the point and the narrow blade. I'd been meaning to try the Rasozero soaps for a while as they're as cheap as anything in Europe, and I've not been disappointed - good lather with the Zenith, and a pleasant smell which goes nicely with Yardley Black Label.

Let's call it another "9".

Rating:
9.5 DFS+ A great shave, with almost no stubble, however a slippery handle and shaver clumsiness, resulted in 1 nick, and 2 weepers. We are getting ready for some ‘beastly’ winter weather for the next 2 or 3 days.

Prep : warm shower / Nivea men deep cleaning face scrub
Pre shave : Proraso white
Brush : Proraso boar by Omega
Cream : Proraso white in a tube
Razor : Merkur 34 C
Blade : Green Astra (1)
Post : alum block and then Nivea Men sensitive balm

Result :

Second shave with the Merkur. Sounds like I am upping the sharpness of the blade with every shave. That being said it feels like I could keep using sharper blade.

First pass was smooth no cut quite a bit of stubble left on the chin compared to the rest of the face but still a lot of stubbles overall, second pass was better than 2 days ago but still a few nicks with it. Nothing that the alum block could not handle and put an end to quickly. I went for a third pass on the cheeks as this was still a bit of mess to my taste. That was an error. after the shave, I only had some mild irritation for 30 minute or so and all on the cheeks … KISS. Next shave on Monday I shall see which blade I will use, time to rummage through the sampler pack I got and try to figure out which one of those would be suitable as the next option. Time to spend some time on the blade sub forum

Quality of the shave 6.5 out of 10

I like the green Astra. I find them sharp and efficient.
Feather, being the sharpest blade on the market as far as I know, gives me the best shaves on the 2nd and 3rd shaves. The first shave smooths them out for me. I've read of some who draw the Feather edge through a cork before the first use. I've never tried that, but the 34C is a good razor for a sharper blade , I have found to be so for me.
