So... I lied.
I received a sale notice from PacSun for a extra 20% off items already on sale. So I go and check it out and sure enough the $80 Adidas Superstars are marked down 30% ($56) with an with an extra 20% off at checkout.
So I go and take a look at my very old and very tired pair of SSs. The footbed is somewhat dried out and stiff. The leather is looking tired and the rubber trim is yellowed and the bottoms are worn out.
So for $44 (free shipping) a new pair of Superstars are on their way.
They weren’t on my radar but this deal was too good to pass up. Hopefully, it’s legit.
I think I have finally satisfied my retro sneaker.... oh never mind.

Those are great. An absolute classic and a style that seems to be more in with the "kids today" than most retro sneakers. $44 is incredible and at least now you know when the toes start to yellow you can fix it!
My experience with Adidas has always been that the lasts run very narrow for me. I would be afraid for me to buy without trying on!

I’ve had a similar experience with some of their suede sneakers like the Gazelle model and the old Tournament model which I believe is now the Campus 2 model (which I do like).
Eventually, I would like to add a pair of blue suede Puma but those can wait.
Those Pumas are great classics, too. I think I will were mine tonight. I can never remember whether the absolute classic color is blue or black. What do we think about that?

this deal was too good to pass up. Hopefully, it’s legit.
Let’s see if this deal falls under the old adage that “if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is.”
Although I did receive an order confirmation along with an order number, the tracking still shows the order as processing and my account has not yet been charged.
The website now shows this sale-priced sneaker as “sold out” although they are selling the same sneaker at $80 which is in stock.
Upon reading some reviews I came across comments like “they never arrived”, “order was cancelled” or “received demo shoes”.
When I ordered the Rod Lavers from PacSun, they arrived within 48 hours. No problems. Easy peasy.
So... we shall see.
If they don’t arrive I don’t know what I’m going to do for sneakers.

Yesterday, the package arrived from PacSun with the Adidas Superstars that I ordered back on 2/5.
The box was pretty mangled and was covered with tape to hold it together so not worth keeping it.
On the inside we find the Adidas Superstar. So why such a good deal? $85 sneakers for $45? What the heck!
Let’s investigate.
Let’s make sure these aren’t knock-offs. First of all, all Superstars have 7 eyelets. The word “Superstar” on the side of the sneaker should be raised. The logo on the tongue should be embossed as well as the heel logo.
All of those things check out.
Next, let’s look at the tag on the inside of the tongue. The # code should match the number on the box. It also tells you that the sneaker was produced in December of 2018 (12/18).
But the location of the # number on the box is covered by another decal with a bar code, perhaps for PacSun inventory purposes is my guess.
I carefully removed that decal and saw that the 2 #numbers did in fact match.
I removed another decal that was covering the original bar code.
Anybody got a barcode scanner?
So it appears that the numbers match up. Next, we’ll check the padding underneath the footbed which should be covered with the Adidas logo and.... it is.
Finally, the Adidas logo should also be on the sole and... it is. (And the crowd goes wild).
So... my guess.
Since the were produced back in 2018, they could have been a demo model and we’re just laying around in a warehouse. Or PacSun was just clearing out some old stock. Who knows?
But here they are. The iconic Adidas Superstar.

I had the Superstars in white leather with Kelly Green stripes. Still my all-time favorite basketball shoe.
I would do the same thing you’re doing, Bob, but my shoe size varies from brand to brand (10.5 in Aldens; 11.5 in Brooks; 12 in ASICS). I can’t trust that they’ll fit when they get here.

The older I get the worse it is for me and shoe sizes. I can wear anything between an 8.5 wide to a 10.5 narrow or medium. Strange.

I think now may be a good time for me to get off of PacSun’s mailing list.
