Thursday morning shave

Blade: Dorko
Brush: Boar
Soap: Col. Conk Southwestern Sun
Post: Aqua Velva

A little Southwestern sun is required on this drizzly pacific north west day. A nice citrus blast to break up the grey. The finish on my Dorko is sub par, that’s on me. A fine shave regardless. Happy Thursday!

Prep: hot towel
Blade: Astra SP #1
Razor: Boker butterfly
Brush: Muhle
Soap: GFT almomd
Aftershave: alum, Thayers rose witch hazel

The software and hardware I used today were chosen randomly in the shave roulette game:

3 pass: hot WTG, XTG, ATG. And an extra ATG pass on my jawline and chin.

Got carried away today chasing a close shave. No nicks, no cuts, no abrasions, but I got 10 little weepers, and the alum's revenge was painful.

I don't what's going on, but the GFT almond didn't have much slickness today. Is it supposed to perform well with hot water? I have no idea what the problem is, had the same problem yesterday with GFT sandalwood.

Another close and smooth shave after changing my shaving angles with a WTG and then 2 x XTG passes (ATG just doesn't work well for me) with no irritation or feedback from the Alum block.
I usually chuck a blade after 4 shaves (a weeks shaving for me), but this BIC is still sharp and smooth so will keep going with it and see how far I can take it.

Soap: Captain's Choice Land Ho!

Great shave this morning.

Used the sample of Land Ho that Captain Pre-Capsize sent with the razor caddy and brush that I won in the Saint Sue Memorial Auction.
Great soap, great aftershave!

The Battle Brothers blade is still giving a nice shave. Almost no irritation when paired with a Super Speed.

Great shave! DFS+
Today's shave gets a 9.

Thursday 10-29 SR Shave
  • Razor - Japanese Vintage 15/16 Hollow grind Razor
  • Brush - Ouma Mother lode synthetic
  • Soap - Spearhead Seaforth Spiced
  • Aftershave - Spearhead Seaforth Spiced
Todays shave was a 5/10 but I'm still pretty happy about it. I've been having trouble shaving with my first SR, but as I've now learned it's because the blade is too dull. I'll have to get it honed. Today was my real first proper straight razor shave. I used too much pressure, cut myself a few times, and have irritation after the shave. But I couldn't be happier since I now know where I need to work on my technique. If this is rock bottom then I have no where but up to go with this razor and that makes all my SR experimental shaves so far worth it.
