If by smooth the transitions you are talking about the jump from one frame to the next, then yes, more frames with less time between exposures.

thanks. for about an hour-long shoot, moved from 20 sec interval to 5 sec interval.
downside, multiplied the number of files 4x. downloading and rendering means heavy lifting.
