Good sellers on Ebay?

I've seen some listings on Ebay or Etsy where the sellers clearly deal in a lot of vintage DE razors and clean them up properly, polish, replate, etc and they obviously also repair stuff too and know what's good condition and what isn't

I'm wondering if there are some good trustworthy sellers that are safe to buy from and who offer very fair prices?

If so can you tell me who is a good one to buy from? I'd like to get a vintage Adjustable gillette DE razor, or maybe a few so I can figure out what i like best and honestly I'd rather just buy from somebody on Ebay or Etsy who knows this stuff really well and can sell a good condition one to me without ripping me off

Buyers want the lowest prices for good merchandize. Sellers want highest prices for a plentiful supply of goods.

One way to get 25% off on shaving merchandize in the big picture is to reduce your intended purchases by 25%.

Ok... easier said than done. How much shaving merchandise do YOU own ?

In my experience dealers that sell lots of shaving gear know the value of their goods and charge accordingly so you pay a fair price. Nothing wrong with that. My preference is to acquire uncleaned items as a large part of the fun for me is in revealing what is under the grime. In that regard I find a search for 'old razor', 'job lot of shaving gear', or even 'old razer' will give better results. There comes a point however where paying $5 for a double ring just would not feel right to me. I would be honour bound to tell the seller what they had even if I missed out on the bargain. That is for each man to decide for himself according to his own moral compass. Postings of 'I paid 50 cents for gold toggle!' never sit well with me and to be honest the buyer goes down a little in my estimation.

Look for sellers with a lot of positive (99%+) feedback, particularly for shaving items, more specifically for the type of item(s) you're interested in buying.

The best is to find someone who is clearing out their old stuff, not a razor specialist. A nice vintage razor is junk to your average person, so they have lower prices. You always should expect to clean and sanitize any vintage razor, so you may find a diamond-in-the-rough.

Imagining solutions for imaginary problems
I recognize that your question is specifically about Ebay (and perhaps Etsy), but when I'm feeling the need to purchase from a seller with this criteria:
  • Someone who deals with a lot of vintage DE razors, tends to clean them up properly, often polishes, replates, sometimes repairs stuff too and know what's good condition and what isn't

  • Also someone who most likely is safe to buy from and tends to offer fair prices
I use the B&B BST here on the marketplace. Adjustables are one of those razors where I'd prefer to know if the movement works as it should, and if the last quarter turn is there. You'll tend to get better pics and descriptions. I see you joined this month, so I'm not sure if you meet the criteria yet for purchasing on the BST, but it's worth the wait, in my opinion.

As to Ebay and Etsy, what others have said....checking feedback, scouring pics and looking for experienced sellers who take returns.....all of that is sound advice.

I've purchased several items from a seller named techichi_shave. He (or she) routinely has parts available and shipping is free. Prices aren't the best, but have never had any problems.
I've purchased several new razor replacement parts from him. He is a good, reliable seller and he's very good with customer service. Prices I would say are fair.

I agree with this philosophy.

I look for the lowest cost listings, frequently grungy, uncleaned items, with poor photos. If they have a good seller rating I will give it a go. I enjoy the cleaning, repairing, surprises, etc. Having no expectations of a top quality item I have yet to get a clunker and most have been very good once attended to. I often read of folks spending bank for an item that was not what they expected.

I always recommend posting in the BST section. There are plenty of members here who have exceptional razors they are willing to part with.

Some who sell razors repeatedly on eBay buy dogs, clean them up and list them with really bright photos. I prefer to look for diamonds in the rough. Such as the soap laden Gillette But Tip I bought. After a detergent bath it revealed a stunning example with no tarnishing of the aluminum and no paint loss.

I like to hunt for them in the "wild". That way I can get my grubby hands on them and make my decision right then and there. Of course right now all their habitats are closed. So I got nothing over the "Bay".
