SOTD and Review, 18 November 2019

Another Stirling shave today, with their Agar soap and A/S. I'm still trying to determine whether I actually like this scent or not. In its drydown, it's getting more pleasant, but at first I was put off - by something that I'm not sure about just yet. A half hour out from my shave, I'm definitely getting very prominent notes of cedar, which I tend to like a great deal.

The soap performance, as always, is first rate. Very easy to build a protective and slick, yogurty lather, and achieve a close, pleasurable shave despite the blade used (see below).

While I'm not terribly interested in reviewing the blade I used today - I'll just remark here. Merkur Super, which came with the Merkur 34C HD as a freebie is worth every cent I spent for it. Don't waste your time if you want something sharper than a butter knife.

Pre-shave: hot shower and hot towel
Razor: Merkur 34C HD
Blade: Merkur Super (#2 and last ever)
Brush: Omega Pro 49
Bowl: Fine Accoutrements Ceramic Lather Bowl
Soap: Stirling Agar
A/S: Stirling Agar Splash

First shave with my recently acquired Gillette New Shortcomb (yesterday). Cleaned and sanitized, the razor delivered a smooth DFS to both face and dome with a first-time new blade. Great shave, with a wonderful razor. The jury is out as to whether I prefer this razor to my silver plated Gillette New Standard. The blade is sharp and smooth, and reminds me of my Kai blades. I’ll have to try them in the AS-D2 to see if they perform as well in that razor. In any case, this razor is currently going into the rotation. I feel clean, smooth and refreshed.

RAZOR: Gillette New Short-comb
BLADE: Suneko SS
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a face and noggin scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Pre-shave Soap
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with MWF followed by Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel and finished with Fine Snake Bite AS Splash

Monday NOvember 18

No Repeat (mostly) NOvember. No repeats so far except for scuttle, blades, and alum. Up today is one of my Eclipse Red Ring razors.

Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
Soap - Stirling Dirty South Shavers 2019
Brush - M&F
Blade - Gillette Platinum (6)
Razor - Eclipse Red Ring
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Stirling Dirty South Shavers 2019 A/S

Shave rating 5 of 5

I find the Red Ring to be a very mild shaver with almost no blade feel. Shaved today on 3 days growth after not shaving over the weekend. Quite a few misses on first pass but 2nd pass picked up everything. Overall a very good BBS shave. This is an excellent soap, very slick and a nice thick lather. A/S smells nice too. The alum was quiet.

Happy NOvember and great shaves everyone.

Grabbed the Admiral from Maggard's, everything else came from a buddy, and that led to this:

proxy.php

Was 3-4 days, can't remember, been weirdly busy. BB/Astra mowed it down.....these aren't as good as the G Plats but damn, they're closer than I remember and I'll keep em in mind for the future. I'll finish this pack and probably grab some more.

Admiral smells great, and I'm glad it's thicker/denser than the Milksteak....which by the way, isn't a thousand times better than Icarus. Icarus works just fine, no issues.

First outing with the TNS boar.....reeeeaaaallllly not sure if I like it or not. It's a lather hog for sure, I loaded up like I hated it and got thru one pass, had to go back for more. I'm definitely going to use this thing to down the WSP and stuff I don't like as it eats soap like no other. After that though, I might rip it and chuck an SHD knot in there....I really dig the handle, just don't know about the boar-ness just yet. I'll keep at it the rest of the week, maybe next week too....I'm experienced enough now to know that I can't make snap decisions on this stuff, it takes time.

CL YRP AS had to go on.....damn I love this stuff. It's just a really great rich scent.

10/10, awesome shave.
