Exactly right. Those are both gorgeous handles
Now I know I wasn't the only one that thought of the Umbrella Corporation.I liked the unturned blank best.

You could make something like an ebony cup and put it on in place of the original.
Sorry I don't have Photoshop but here's a quick sketch.
That was the first thing that came to mind as I have a bit of ebony, but I decided it would be too dark so I’ll probably go with spalted tamarind. The black lines will contrast with the maple while the lighter color of the wood will contrast with the padauk.

Make another blank of the same pattern, then re-turn the top half again. Offset the top part so that the colors alternate between top/bottom when you glue them together.
I thought this as well!I liked the unturned blank best.

A cup made from one piece of either of the two ones would also look really nice. I think the darker color of the padauk would be the better of the two. But I tend toward predominantly dark colors.
I like the way you made the blank, how did you go about cutting the "triangles" to make the blank? sorry to hear about the issues. At least its part of the fun of the hobby
It happens to the best of us Jay. The good news is that you documented the process and we all got to see how beautiful it was!
Hopefully it was easy enough to make another!
Ditto.Any way you rescue that handle it's sure to be a stunner.
