What's new

My Guess... 3017

Haslinger Sandelholz has met its end. Up next is a more or less brand new 6 oz. tub of Soap Commander Love. Good thing rose is my favorite scent because this one is gonna last a while. On a positive note, Love is one of the last 2 soaps from my original stash when I started in. Almost there.

I've been playing around with the Harris Arlington to get better lather (don't worry, no beakers, scales or pipettes were harmed in this experiment). Some days it would be good, others, meh. For me, I've figured that a wetter brush, loading for 30 seconds does the trick. It's kind of a variation on the Marco Method, just without the sopping wet brush. Past damp, but not dripping wet, keep swirling until the big bubbles disappear and voila, great lather.

Soap Commander Love was a real good soap. Took me 4 solid months, and that was with an Omega 10098, big old boar brush. I'd probably get 6 months with the synthetic brushes I use now. Great scent, like you were sticking your nose into a boquett of roses.

The scent certainly is fantastic. If it’s as good as Endurance I’m in for a treat. However, knowing what I know now, it’s not very likely that I buy 6oz soaps again!!

I'm leaning more towards just using it and enjoying it.
That's the spirit. I scored two sticks of Irisch Moos back in the '08-'09 Great Irisch Moos Rush. Used the first one right away. Saved the second one until three years ago. Used that bad boy up and enjoyed every. single. shave.

At first, I was tempted to keep it... heirloom it. But it's tallow based, and eventually the fat would just go rancid and stinky. The stick format meant that it wasn't air tight at all; you could smell it readily every time I opened that particular drawer. So eventually it would just start smelling like rancid fat. "Here you go, son. Here's a highly sought after, very valuable stick of rancid fat." Nope.

I got moves like Jagger
@beginish I though the 215 shaves from a DR Harris Arlington puck back in 2014 was a lot. So far, I am at 628 days and counting with my P.160 (good thing that I have my trusty TI BA II Plus calculator to do the date work for me :tongue_sm)

Endurance is on my buy-list, after this year's sabbatical.

Holy cow! My DR harris went 428... I am kind of glad I don't have any P.160 laying around. But just for giggles my next 3017 might be a kg of Vitos. I think the per gram usage will be more than DRH but it will probably last awhile.

I suspect that I will be far less than these. 30 seconds is a pretty long load, but that’s what I need to make work well.

Finished off my Hasling Ringenblumen today, it is rewarding to finish a soap, but I'll miss it. Next up is.... uhm..... ...
I'll get back to you. :001_rolle

Finished off my TOBS Avocado. I tried RR SMdF for the first time yesterday but I didn't expect the menthol kick. It has a great scent and the performance was good. I set it aside and will pull it out during the summer.

Next up for 3017 is Jabonman Lavanda. It has about 30-40% remaining. This should be quick. It has good performance but not as moisturizing as other top performers.

Finished the little bit of Stirling Black Cherry I had left, and moved to a 95% finished tub of Tiki The Captain. I figured I had about a week's worth of shaves left in it, but it was so soft, and loaded so heavily I only got three shaves out of it. It is now gone. Next up (after tonight's MWF shave) is about 60% of a tin of Dr. Jon's Anne Bonny. Which might just be my favorite soap scent of all time.

Now half as wise
I'm staying with what I'm calling my 3017 rotation. One month at a time. Started a puck of Cade January 1, and went bac to the DRH Windsor on Feb 1. Should get this month and another out of it. March will be back to Bayolea and April the final of the rotation, and my favorite of them all, Tabac.

The mystery soap, which I am pretty sure was Calani Iberian Sun is gone, lasted about 3 weeks but it wasn't new when I started. Good soap but its discontinued so no need to dwell on it.

Next up is a tub of L&L (Declaration) After The Rain. It has been used a little, I'd guess its 90%+.

Started VT Apothecary Lime Musk 1/9. Now has a hole at the bottom. Still looks like 3 weeks or more left, though. I don't get bad shaves at all. It's similar to Williams. Yeah, it works, but don't let your friends do it.
