Blade recommendation for my 1951 SS

I find the Feathers just too damn sharp at the start and not all that great once they're worn in a few shaves, but many people swear by them. I've been using Gillette Super Thins in my '49 SS for a few years and really like them. They're evidently more popular in Asia than here. I get mine...

    Aristocrat dating?

Ironhammer, thanks for posting those great pics. That 1953 President looks just like mine so that does make it a 1954. Are you sure that only the handle was rhodium plated? The top on mine is the shiniest head I've ever seen on any Gillette DE.

    Aristocrat dating?

You know, I thought the handle on the President looked way too shiny to be nickel. I've been bugging this one antique/collectibles guy for many patient months and I guess my persistence really paid off! Can't wait to learn more about these two shavers. Thanks guys.

    Aristocrat dating?

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I can't find the Aristocrat in the shavewiki page on production dates for Gillettes. Could somebody point me in the right direction? Also, I have one Aristocrat that's gold colored (very good condition, with case, no procution date) and one that's the same...

A few more examples of eBay mis-identifications.

Yeah, I emailed a couple of these sellers. Both thanked me for the info, but left their postings unchanged. So it goes.

A few more examples of eBay mis-identifications.

I was checking out the bay because I've found a couple of Aristocrats I want to sell and, man oh man, there are at least four razors advertised as Aristocrats that are actually something totally different in an Aristocrat box! Two of them appear to the New style and I think the other is a...

    What have I done!

This post was a wonderful start to my Monday morning. I shared it with my wife and she got a good laugh too. She's not into wet shaving (I bequeathed her my big supply of Sensor Excel razors and heads when I got into wet shaving). I am blessed with a mate who not only doesn't complain about my...

    Thoughts on polishing knurling

I have used my Dremel tool with a wire brush attachment and extreme care several times and gotten okay results, but frankly not noticeably better than the result from using an old toothbrush and metal polish — just a lot more anxiety lest I damage a fine razor that just wants a bit more shine...

    Grey handled Super Speed?

Nah, that's not it. I've asked my father to fill me in on how long he had it and where he got it. Maybe that will shed a little light, but Dad's not much of an email checker. It'll probably be a while before I hear back. At this point it seems to me that, unless my father has owned this razor...

    Grey handled Super Speed?

The main reason I don't think this is a faded black handle is that there are just no signs of fading. Fading, in my experience, is never totally uniform, and the color of this handle is quite uniform. Not only that, but it's in very good to excellent condition. I wish my pics were sharper so you...

    Grey handled Super Speed?

Here are a couple of pics of this grey handled SS next to a black handled. The paint is fairly shiny and I'm sure it was always the same shade of grey that you see here. So as this isn't a faded black handle, what's the story on the grey handled SS?

    Grey handled Super Speed?

Nope. I have several black-handled Super Speeds. This isn't faded black, it's solid medium grey.

    Ebay Seller Recycling Pictures

Ditto. If you paid with PayPal, file a claim, but be sure and refer to your correspondence with the seller and state your entire case about the misrepresentation when you first make your claim. You will only get that one chance to give all the evidence supporting the fact that the item was...

    Grey handled Super Speed?

Picked up a flare tip, date code O3, with the main part of the handle, above the TTO knob, painted grey. What's the deal with this?

Not a safety razor but liking Sensor Excel.

This is the razor I was using until I switched to DE shaving. I agree with everything positive that's been said, but I gave this razor to my wife because she'll probably never use up the cartridges I'd been hoarding, it really does give a close and nick-free shave and she likes it. But I just...
