Perfecting your technique as you perfect your honing

Maybe to help your shaving skill evolve you could invest in a quality shavette, and perhaps use this every 2-3 shaves? With a fresh blade, you will know that any errors are down to your technique. I used this method to get good at SR shaving, and the skills I got from using the shavette...

    Feather Artist Club kamisori

I don't think there's anything boring about SR shaving. Cool choice.

Excellent! What colour did you go for? I love the pink ('wine') colour; also happened to be a steal at the price ;)

    Feather Artist Club kamisori

Kind of a fast track... Took me a while to get the guts to order some Pro Supers but when I did, man it was a big improvement. This was in my regular AC SS. The AC kamisori? Feels like a match made in heaven.

    Feather Artist Club kamisori

Really, really pleased with the shaves from my new Feather Artist Club kamisori. Got my hands on it yesterday and for the first time in a while I've shaved my head on consecutive days. So easy to get the ideal pressure and angle! Yesterday I loaded it with a new Schick Proline: I thought don't...

    New grinder needed

Thank you for the tip! I've ordered a 1/8 key (another high-quality item, I do seem to be collecting them now!) and will see how that fits, good to know there's another size I can try if it's no good.

SR and neck stubble help. And, how long will this take?

My only advice would be - don't get greedy, in terms of the number of strokes you use on the neck. As pointed out above, the neck is a cylinder: if you try to flatten it and shave a wide area in one stroke, you will not get optimally close. And for me, this seems to increase the chance of cuts...

Buying first straight razor - vintage Solingen?

I'm sure you will get great advice on your choices from the denizens of this forum. My only input would be that in honing straight razors, I found the initial bevel setting to be of the greatest importance. It might be worth investing a little in a good stone exclusively for this; especially...

    A new introduction...

Excellent! Glad you are enjoying the journey, using a straight is such a satisfying pleasure. Luke

You've had a journey with yours too haven't you? The issues are really similar. I actually haven't checked the size of the Allen key that came with mine - the OE YouTube videos I watched specifically mentioned a 3mm key, and recommended that an aftermarket T-type key be purchased. I saw why...

    New grinder needed

Thank you - this is spot on IMO. I'll be replacing the bolt and plowing on with this grinder for a fair while, but I'm disappointed that on its third iteration this grinder still seems to be in beta. The adjustment system is pretty much the only part a user will need to tweak at all, so it...

I think I'm done with soaps...

Interesting point. I don't think it's a 'solution in search of a problem' though is it. The problem is easily defined, namely that shave quality could be improved. This has achieved that, consistently. If it removes some of the charm or romance of the process, for me it's a small loss I'll...

    New grinder needed

Thanks - had I been switched-on enough to scan the terms and conditions I probably wouldn't have bought it, but hey you live and learn. Once the adjustment collar is sorted I will be happy enough with it for a while. Currently it's on a one size fits all setting, and I'm using my Kruve sifter...

    New grinder needed

Quick update on this for anyone contemplating buying an OE Pharos: I wanted to send the unit back, as I was (and remain) dismayed at the speed with which the adjustment bolt rounded out. However I really should have checked the fine print on returns before buying - I hadn't spotted the 15%...
