I have both and love both, MdC Agrumes and SV Opuntia (4.3). Both lather easily, both shave smoothly, both rinse off easily. The SV does have some extra post-shave conditioning over MdC, but that also means the MdC makes me feel like a have a 'cleaner' face. If that feel doesn't matter so much...
I have both the WR2 in both 1.05 and 1.15. I'd like to help, but I've never used the R89. Have you used any other razors? Some quick searches makes me think that the R89 is similar to a Karve B plate or Rockwell 3 or 4? If that's accurate, then I would recommend either ... wait for it ...
Turn n Shave makes great knots too. I have both a 26 mm Quartermoon fan (synthetic) and a 26mm Shoat/Boar.

@Adjustingtolife Tough call. TnS has a full gel, no gel, and half. I got the half. With my prep as described, it was ready to use and lather after 4 uses and dry downs. I think anyone can do that.
The great thing about this knot is you can put in a custom handle, which is what I was wanting. Is...
Turn n Shave might have something similar, either as a bulb or fan—the full moon or silver synth.

How could you tell the fibers were glued upside down? Was the band down at the bottom of the fiber? Just asking because my EJ STF is wonderfully soft on the fingers, but does feel a little 'pokey' during face lathering. Certainly not scratchy at all though. I still prefer my Turn N Shave...
