    The last tin you finished

Yesterday I smoked the last of a tin of Robert McConnell Folded Flake Matured Virginia from June of '14. I was given this tin in a Secret Santa Exchange and the tobacco was sublime. Sweet and rich with a depth of flavor that I hope to smoke again someday.

Captain Black Grape; Yet Another Use.

I would go the cat route except my wife is quite allergic. I'm lucky she can tolerate our hypoallergenic dogs, who are not supposed to shed. Kind of a scam I think, given how much dog hair we vacuum up weekly. Anyway, cats are out. The CBG will have to do. I have to say though, the tree...

INFO! Badger and Blade 2020 LE Pipe : Askwith Pipes

Those are amazing looking pipes, all there together, a leap year set! Great work Chris, all the way round. A great pipe, great price, great options, and super fast as well. I'm looking forward to having this one in hand and enjoying some fine smokes. Thank you so much. And, the added s/h...

Captain Black Grape; Yet Another Use.

I've this silver maple tree beside my patio, providing shade to the patio and house, and unfortunately shelter for pesty birds. The doves roosting in the tree create a mess on the patio and furniture, making my life complicated. I like the tree but I don't like the mess, thus I've tried a...

What Brown leaf 'good stuff' are you waiting on to be delivered?

My wife's test came back negative this afternoon; good news indeed! I feel like a celebratory smoke, however, the lawn care guys just finished spraying a fungicide on the yard. I need to let it dry thoroughly before I venture out to smoke on the patio. It is only 97 degrees out there, so it...

What Brown leaf 'good stuff' are you waiting on to be delivered?

Truth be told, I'm not even smoking for the time being. My wife's work has a few covid-19 cases and she was tested on Monday. We are waiting on her results and quarantining for the time being. Our daughter, a physical therapist has pleaded with me to temporarily stop smoking, until we know if...

What Brown leaf 'good stuff' are you waiting on to be delivered?

What am I waiting to be delivered? Nothing. Absolutely nothing, pipe smoking wise. Well, except for the B&B Brown Leaf LE, and that Matches 860 Tribute Savinelli from The Pipe Nook. Those don't count do they? So I'm claiming I am PAD and TAD free. At least for now. So, waiting for nothing.

Zen and The Art of Pipe Smoking

Fair warning: The book can be rather obtuse at times. I don't want to say much more, but don't worry if you feel a little lost at times, I think we all did.

    The last tin you finished

Just filled my last pipe from this tin of Hearth & Home Viprati. A little dab left over went into the Remnant jar, which is developing an enticing aroma! I'll likely not open another tin of Viprati for awhile. I like it and have plenty on hand, but there are a lot of Va blends on the smoking...

Zen and The Art of Pipe Smoking

I bought Lila but never could get through it. I need to give it another try, probably after reading Zen... again. I do suspect that as we pass through different seasons of our lives that we will find something different to appreciate in Pirsig's work.

Zen and The Art of Pipe Smoking

"The real cycle you're working on is a cycle called yourself." Probably the most influential book of my college career. I'll have to check, but my original copy is, I think, a first edition. The class that required it was likely in the fall of 1974 or spring of 1975, my senior year. I was...

    Mylar Bags for Tobacco Storage

Less weight for sure. They do require boxes or small totes if you have a bunch of bags, just to keep them somewhat organized. As for reusing them, I guess you could, but the ziplock versions can only be heat sealed one time unless you are very careful with the first seal. At 50 cents per bag, I...

    Mylar Bags for Tobacco Storage

I do have some quart size for tin storage although I’ve only used a few. And yes, heat sealing is advisable for longer term storage. I would think the ziplock on the 7 mil bags are better than the average plastic bag, but not for years. They are less attractive than jars as well!
