^ I tried the long sweeping strokes, and it just left way too much behind. Perhaps its the stiff, gray scruff I'm now growing, which is coarser than it was 30, 40, or 50 years ago. - I remember shaving with the Gillette Slim-Twin, Astra, Trac-II, and the horrible Schick-O-Matic, or whatever...
I've tried a LOT of electrics over the years, from the ubiquitous Remington, several different Norelco rotaries, and several other foil razors. The only one that I kept using for any time, and even bought the newer version of, was the Panasonic Arc series, with each version noticeably closer...
Used them a couple times as a travel razor, and with some work, it gives a decent shave. Just took a lot more strokes than one of SE or DE razors....lots of short fast strokes to get the growth down to feeling smooth again. Still lots better than a disposable, which tore me up a couple of...
We started with the 40v Ryobi maybe 5-6 years ago, and while it got the job done, using FOUR(4!) of the standard 2.6a batteries, it really struggled in some areas of the yard, where the grass really grows, tends to hold moisture, and is thick. It would bog down enough at times to trip the motor...
April 9th:
Timeless 95 OC SS / Voskhod (4th)
PDP 63 / 30mm Synthetic
PDP 63 Balm
PDP 63 EDT
Results: Fantastic 3-Pass BBS Shave. Could of stopped after the 2nd pass, but did a 3rd XTG just to get super smooth before the weekend.
April 8th: Old Friend, still with a Twin Blade Loaded
Schick M Adjustable / Schick Twin (# Unknown, lots)
Stirling Green / 30mm Tuxedo
Stirling Green Splash
Stirling Green EDT
Results: Pretty much BBS after the 1st pass (ATG), but did a 2nd WTG to grab any stragglers, and finish off the BBS.
Those are the German Wilkies, I bought a pack of 100 (20 cards of 5) back in 2019. Good in some razors, and just prone to giving a nick here and there in others. In my Timeless, or REX (at 3+) I get mystery weepers and small nicks, that you don't always now occurred until the red appears. In...
April 7th:
Timeless 95 OC SS / Voskhod (3rd)
Stirling Green / 30mm Synthetic
Stirling Green AS Splash
Small Dab Polo Red Intense Balm
Stirling Green EDT
Results: Outstanding BBS shave, and even did a pass on the back of the neck.
April 6th:
Rex Ambassador / German Wilkinson Sword (2nd)
Tabac Original / 30mm Tuxedo
Tabac Original Splash
Tabac Original Balm
Results: 3-Pass BBS dialed down to 2 1/2.
April 5th: MMM Shave
GEM MMOC / Personna GEM (3rd)
Tabac Original / 30mm Tuxedo
Tabac Original Splash
Tabac Original Balm
Results: Wow, that was a great shave, performing the standard 3 pass shave, taking my time, on 3-4 days growth. The MMOC mows through multiple days growth with ease. End...
Schick Adjustable with a Schick Twin Blade equals a fantastic shave, with the yellow packaged Chinese Schick blades in second. - Haven't tried any of the Supply branded (Personna?) blades, so can't comment on them. The Schick Twins do however seem to last forever.
March 31st:
Rex Ambassador / German Wilkinson Sword (New)
Tabac Original Soap / 30mm Tuxedo
Mentholated Witch Hazel
Tabac Original Splash
Tabac Original Balm
Results: Perfect 3-Pass BBS shave. - A first for me and the German Wilkinson Sword in the Rex, she just needed to be turned down to 2...
March 30th:
Rex Ambassador / KAI (9th)
Stirling Green / RR 24mm Silver-Tip Synthetic
Stirling Green AS Splash
Stirling Green EDT
Results: BBS, although starting to feel a bit tuggy or less than smooth.
They shave sort of like a GEM, nearly flat against the face. I tilt mine every so slightly downward from perfectly flat, which yields a really nice, close, and comfortable shave.
I only kept the Adjustable, which for me just seem to shave better than the G or the Personna models I previously...
