AOS preshave oil
AOS lavender soap
Paladin Moby brush
Henckels Friodur 472, WTG & ATG
AOS sandalwood aftershave gel.
Still learning the SR, something between a CCS and DFS this morning but no cuts and little irritation so I put in the W column.
If you rotate the blade on the edge side you'll very soon be waiting for your second strop to arrive. I believe too much pressure on the strop can lead to "rolling the edge" which would basically be just what it says and bend that nice sharp edge over just enough to dull it instead of lining...
AOS preshave oil, AOS lavender soap, Paladin brush, FOCS razor with a GSB on shave #6. Finished with alum block, Osage Rub and AOS aftershave gel. Was in a bit of a hurry so just shy of BBS but a good DFS.
No pic but had my best shave ever with a SR this morning!! Finally learning to add in what works for me and make the razor mine. Two day growth, AOS preshave oil. Tabac, mystery brush. Hart 5/8 w/coco bolo scales, pasted balsa edge. Two passes, WTG and ATG. Managed something between a CCS...
Still in... but a custom Feather DX in BTS is seriously working on me.
Had a few extra minutes this morning so went with the straight razor.
AOS unscented pre-shave oil.
Paladin Moby brush.
AOS Lavender soap.
Still very new to using a SR so I can't say it was a great shave but my skill is...
GRUME just saved me!!!!! Read about a DE blade on another thread here that I wanted to try... hoped on over to try a blade... added to cart... headed to check out... DAMN!!! Can't do that due to GRUME!! Guess it worked lol!!! So those blades will sit in my cart until 6/1.
Guess I'm funny. I treat my DE's like tools. Loosen the cap, rinse in hot water, shake dry and blow as much air over the blade as my lungs will allow. Then scrub with a toothbrush every 4th or 5th blade... maybe.
Now my straights... I treat those like Excalibur.
The learning curve for me switching from carts to DE was like 3 shaves before I was doing as good or better than I had been with carts. My learning curve with a SR as been considerably more difficult and the shave goddess has been much more demanding in the amount of blood she has required.
