    Sharpest SE blades?

Watched and read up. Tried varying the angle. I'll hunt down other blades and see. Thanks.

Gillette 7 O'Clock Black > Bic Chrome Platinum > Feather

If you all haven't, try the Bics too. I hated the blues, greens were alright, and yellows were between the two. The YMMV bit is very curious. Constantly curious about the science behind it.

    Sharpest SE blades?

A kind fellow here sent me a couple Gem SE blades to use in a Micromatic I found at an antique store. I tried the blades and they just aren't sharp enough; they pull even WTG. Are there sharper SE blades? In case it's helpful, the only blades I can comfortably shave ATG in my DE89 are 7 O'Clock...

Gillette 7 O'Clock Black > Bic Chrome Platinum > Feather

I'm going ahead and saying it. [YMMV and all that, but...] I've been using the Gillette 7OC Blacks and am sold 100%. I get 1 1/2 great shaves from a Feather. (FWIW the first half of the first shave is mediocre, the rest of the first is smooth as all get out, the second is great and the third...

Checking in and a couple of questions!

Old, yeah, that could do it. The blade may have been wobbling around. Let us know.

    First Manly Shave

Keep working on the lather. It'll get there. Closeness will as well. The DE89 is great. Closeness won't be very blade-related, just keep working on technique. If you get a few irritation-free days and your lather gets better, add another pass. That's assuming you're not doing 3-4 already. If you...

Checking in and a couple of questions!

If I'm overly-aggressive, shaving daily bothers my face. You could try cutting put one pass and see if that makes the next day less irritated. If so, it may be that your face is sensitive to too much shaving, your angle or pressure are off, or something else is amiss. If wetter lather works...

Catching up with some tips and questions

I made an oversized tube for a soap stick into one that one of my first brush fit in. My others don't fit and it has other problems, but same idea. Kind of funny story though. When in NJ I tried to get a bottle from a couple pharmacies. I asked if I could buy a correct size bottle to store a...

Catching up with some tips and questions

I did a bunch of searching months ago when I was in transition and living various places. I found one that had a cover that went onto the end of the brush to exten the handle And then flipped around to protect the brush while traveling. I just tried to find it but came up blank. I haven't tried...

Catching up with some tips and questions

Jesseiv, The Dude abides. I'll update once I use the MM. Probably won't be for a long while as I'm not planning to order blades soon. My birth quarter just arrived with the day a ways off still, but I don't miss the SS. The friend I gave it to has very thin, light hair and loves it. For my...

    PIF - Parker SR1 Shavette

Very nice PIF. Thank you even if I don't win. Please count me in. I like that I finally found a shave after 15 years that I didn't dread and put off for days on end.

    Newbie, Very Discouraged

highly recommend jumping on that PIF brush offer. While you wait and just in case, try cleaning the brush you have. I had one that just plain wouldn't make lather and a member here recommended cleaning it like shown in the tutorial I've linked at the end. As soon as I did, it was like...

2nd Annual "Go Straight for My Birthday" PIF!

Happy belated birthday. I've been away for a few months and just came back to update everyone a bit. Got caught up in the Whipped Dog Sight Unseen thread and then stumbled on this. If i count as active, I'd love to be included. That dang Sight-unseen thread made me want to try a straight more...

Catching up with some tips and questions

Phew, I'm back - at least for now. I've been away for a few months due to moving, job search, starting a business, buying a very old house that needs lots of work, beginning to set up my new wood shop, etc. But, i wanted to drop back in and make a few notes that I found interesting. Warning...

    Splash recommendation

I'm pretty well settled on 4711. I found it for a decent price online if I ordered more than one to make shipping worthwhile and landed two of them for just under $20 shipped. Can't wait as my sampler is gone.
